Topic: Arse-sweat Race Stats

I finally checked out the stats at http://www.mylaps.com, and it turns out it is pretty easy to copy/paste and get the numbers into a spreadsheet. So, this being Saturday and looking for any excuse to not get dressed and go out and mow the lawn, I did just that.

Here is the distribution of laps completed, including 0 and negative laps completed.

I am tempted to interpret this this chart as saying that about 6% of the field dropped out every 25 laps, but that would only be so if everyone was expected to complete the 369 laps the overall winner completed, regardless of how long the race takes. Instead, it shows the field is pretty evenly spread from the 25-30 to 350-375 laps brackets, with roughly double that number in the 0-25 laps group and a few spikes here and there. It also shows that your chances of completing 25 laps are about as good as completing 300 laps, but then this isn't a game of chance. We completed 177 laps, putting us mid-pack.

As to how competitive you were, it depends on what you were trying to win.

Our best lap was 2:29 (149 seconds), so we are actually fall in the bar just right of the peak, but barely. The race-average lap time was 2:27. But again, what do you want to win, overall winner at 2:10-2:15, or IOE at 2:50-2:55? Come to think of it, turning a sub-3:00 lap in that Cadillac is probably damned pretty good.
