Topic: Autobahn never say die 500 Who is gonna make it?

Just curious as to who is going to make it!  We did this for Nelson and Gingerman, car, team expereince...etc.

Team Sucker Punch with be in the race.

Car:  The Van Halen  team sucker punch Black Dog motorsports Hoyt tech motocomm why the hell are you doing a road race with a GM automatic 1989 Chevrolet Camao

Team:  We are down to four drivers this time, but all of them have multiple Lemons race expereience.

Who else is going to make it?

We really wanted to make it, but there was just no practical way to tow our trailer all the way from the east coast and back with a Tahoe.

Racing4Nickels made it in.  We unfortunately aren't racing in Gingerman and the car started right up yesterday so I guess we'll get a cage built for it, and then procrastinate until right before the race and have to scramble to get the rest of it done.

The Tools will be there for our third race on the 1987 Merkur XR4ti.  Looking forward to a crazy weekend in Chicago.  The car is pretty much ready to go, except every time I've driven it in the last two months something has broke.  So I've decided to stop to driving it until we get to Autobahn, I'm sure it's done breaking right ?

We'll be there.  Assuming our 96 Geo Metro survives MAM this weekend.  Looks like 106 teams signed up.  How are we gonna all fit on the north track?

I saw that 106 applied, but not sure how many were accepted, and then there will be those that won't get their car done in time, and then some that tried the 384 hours of Lemons and destroy their car in the first race.

The Topless Asset Racing Program MR2 is going for the 384 Hours, so we'll see.

We have a couple of backup ideas sketched out in case of catastrophic failure at Gingerman.  Not much time between the races tho.

BuckSnort Racing is going for the 384 Hours of epic disaster!  Bringing lots of tools, metal, spare parts and beef jerky.

The last Gingergman race was pretty clean and we only had a few times when our drivers ran out of talent. The track is pretty open...who knows about this time though.

As for Autobahn, I've only seen youtube videos.

Autobahn is a pretty open track, it is hard to get in trouble there, of course that is with people racing nice cars, not Lemons.

Big Oil Racing plans to be out there. We are running this weekend at MAM, and then have to fix everything to get ready for Autobahn. Its our lessened version of the 384 as we can't make Detroit.

I drove autobahn full course a couple years ago, just in a much faster car. Wish we could get alot of teams out there and have the full course to run.

Team: 4 drivers as of now with a total of 0 experience, including actual mechanic work. Probably limited to no spares (there's an Autozone nearby, right?)

Heap: '92 Taurus ShitSHO - possibly running by race day...

This could be a very expensive camping/drinking weekend

Why bring spares when you probably won't know how to fix what ever breaks.  That seems to be our philosophy, that and lots of positive thinking and faith.  We believe our car will run the whole race without breaking.  Thats got to be better than mechanical know how.

That's exactly our thinking as well.  If it made it this long, and was still running after being hit by a skid-loader in a farm field, why wouldn't it last hundreds of miles at WOT?  Why waste money on a spare clutch/suspension/anything when it'll just sit next to the broken part with no one to put it on?  So far everything we've fixed (well, me, since it's in my garage) has taken well over the normal time, since it's the first go-round and I'm trying to do this correctly, instead of quickly.  In short, we're screwed if anything goes wrong, unless the other guys in the pit want to help us out for some beer.  We will, however, bring plenty of zip ties and tape (just as good as welding, right?).

You might want to add some jbweld to the good as welding list, I mean it has weld in the name.

Our repairs either take way more time than it should or absolutely no time to do.  A mixture of our own stupidity and the fact that half the bolts have rusted to the point of becoming one with the car.(the other half of the bolts look new, and often are inches away for the rusted ones and just as old.

My philosophy now is to wait for Shobocop to spit his diff pin through the trans case and then cannibalize their car for any parts I might need.

I'll be looking for YOU in the paddock come Friday, haha.

I was recently made aware of the weak diff in the SHOs...that may be our next 'entirely-too-long-fix' to get the pins welded in, but boy does that sound like a lot of work!

We are not bringing a ton of spare stuff either (but we have the home field advantage as our house/shop is less than 15 min. from the track). What we are bringing is a spare radiator and spare tires. I can see a radiator failure as a common thing. Anything too major and it's Miller Time. Although I will will have my MIG welder and generator in the trailer and have been known to work for beer, if anyone needs anything smile
