Topic: Theme ideas for a 1992 Capri

So we are 99% sure we will go with the Capri. I can get it for a couple hundred bucks from a buddies mom (it was her daily driver for as long as I remember) needs a clutch and maybe a CV boot. I know these cars share a ton with the Mazda 323. So parts are pretty easy. I am having a tough time coming up with a theme for it. The only idea I have is that since it kinda looks a Lotus Elan, that I might do a Fotus Crapcan, paint it British Racing green with a yellow stripe. Maybe the team can dress up as a bunch Brits with bad teeth or something. Looking back at the past races, I don't see any Capris of this vintage, is there a reason? You guys/girls have any ideas for us?

Change to Team Carpi and build a large, functional Koi pond in the back of it. Sure, adding weight is antithetical to most race cars but (1) you don't have a race car, you have a Capri and (2) this is Lemons where you will be more loved, honored, and remembered if you have an outrageous fish tank that you're racing in rather than just another econobox.

And if all of you wear big Koi costumes through tech and judging, you will become instant legends.

Given the Asian Carp issue that Illinois is facing, we have decided to go with Asian Carpi, not sure what all we will be doing, but I think the idea is fitting. First order is to get the safety stuff on the car done, we are only two months out and the car is just today getting to my house, then we will try and do something fun with the theme.

I like the Asian Carpi idea! Clever.

I say you cover the entire car in REAL Asian Carp. No seriously. Glue, staples, steel mesh. I guarantee that by Sunday you can drive 4-off around the whole track and receive a non-stop black flag and the judges STILL would wave you right through!

Camp at the far end of the paddock, so when the wind blows saturday night, EVERYONE is up all night with the rancid stench. You can sleep easy on the upwind side. Sunday you will be the only team doing laps.

Question:  I was thinking of doing a similar thing with a fish tank and gold fish for our theme, do you think people would have a problem with like animal abuse or something if we use $1 goldfish?

Someone somewhere will have a problem with it. Just feed them to the other pets that come to the track, or fillet them yourself on your header to present to the Supreme Court as baksheesh. That way, the gold fish were granted a life-long wish of being a racecar driver, yet there bodies were used to humainly feed another creature without filling our dumps.

Ether that, or you can just give PETA the finger and know that we will stand behind you.

I had a friend who had a knack for turning her cars into moldy messes she called terrariums. So, throw some dirt in the car, along with a single leaf of kudzu vine, wait a week, and your car will have grown its own theme. Add a few pet store birds and lizards and a bag of lady bugs to complete the look. Call it a terrarium, or maybe biosphere 2, or whatever that nut job in NW or AZ called his habitat experiment.
