Topic: Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge

Found out about this from my Laguna Seca email newsletter.... http://www.d2d500.com/  Looks like "The Craftsman Class" has the decimal point on space too far to the right for what I am used to.  http://www.d2d500.com/D2D500_Rules_Regs.html  The pricing isn't terrible but is more inline with what I'd expect for cars of this level (i.e. $$) of preparation.  Please oh please will some Lemons legends sign up for this race.

Re: Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge

So much for the theory that Laguna Seca is too difficult for novice drivers in a crapcan race...

Re: Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge

We'd have to add weight to our car (2,000 pound minimum), but the budget would let us double our power output and get a tranny that won't give up on us.

I'll see if Alex (aka MetroGnome) wants to post up the e-mail exchange he had with the organizer of that event.  Short answer is that the guy was a dick over e-mail about entering a Lemons car.

I'm not surprised.  I wonder if Krider would do it with their former Lemons turned "normal" racecar Nissan.  That's probably as close to Lemons as the organizer would want.

From reading the rules it does seem like this is an organization that would look down on Lemons.

Well, besides the lowest class being 10X the cost of our Lemon, we're missing the passenger's side door and we'd have to unbolt the hood from over the driver's head and put it back where Mazda left it.

I'm out.

Re: Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge

I talked with the guy and he was ok with a Lemons car provided they are over 2,000 lbs so no Geo Metro. I would have to add a windo net and remove lock in steering column, since we have a muffler, we can hit 92 db. The biggest problem is only 35 cars will be allowed!! Talk about an open track

Re: Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge

35 cars total? Wouldn't that mean only a few cars in each class?

It looks like they're counting total prep cost (no safety exclusion), which brings it in line with most Lemons cars.  Also, any tires are allowed.  I'm not so sure they really want a crapcan subcompact running around Laguna Seca with Hoosiers on it.  Of course, that's probably why they don't have a 'why am I on my roof?' rule.
