Topic: Miami FL New years.

I started watching some videos of Pal Beach International to learn the track and I found this one running at night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEPm_PNP3n8
Will we have the track lights on for our 24 hour event?   If so the track seems very well lit.

Also I only see 25 cars signed up so far..  Am I and 24 other teams think the Ultimate way to celebrate the New Years would be running a race?

Team Eurotrash.

Re: Miami FL New years.

We are trying to figure out how to get the car over there. No one wants to drive it that far. Need a trailer and maybe a tow vehicle. Sounds like winning the lottery will solve our dilema.........But yeah, racing at new year's sounds way cool.

Re: Miami FL New years.

Oh yea, we're definitely going to be there (provided our entry is accepted, of course). I want to try and drive the sChitroen out there. From San Diego. (I feel a little outdone by the SHO driving to the track, "winning", and then driving home-- TWICE! And of course the Henry V8th Caddy driving to Arsesweat and also Winning.

Of course since returning from Sears Pointless  the only thing I've done to it was pull the belts, seat, fuel cell and battery. I'll have to dig it out sooner or later to see if it still runs before the Buttonwillow Arsefreeze. And maybe fix that coolant hose bodge.

But we're definitely planning on attending with something

Re: Miami FL New years.

There was some heated discussion about bringing the Wartburg down for one last hurrah before I retire it.  Even had some discussions with a certain event organizer we'll just call J about driving it since he should have to suffer through he nightmare he made us build.

But bottom line is the budget doesn't support it and even if I squeaked out the cash somewhere that wouldn't leave me enough to pay the divorce lawyer I'd need when my wife found out....she's less than supportive of the idea sad

You're not presenting this properly to your wife.  "New Years in Miami!!!"

Tried that, she read between the lines and got "New Years in Miami while my husband acts a drunk fool with his car buddies and ignores me"  We've been down that path before, she knows what happens.

Try, "New Years in Key West." It sounds more romantic.

Re: Miami FL New years.

Well starting the year in the Keys would work.. After the race take her there...

SPank..  I am not ready to do it this year due to funds and not having the 2nd built.  But next year I would like to work a trade with a West coast team..  RE Ill save a spot on my team for a FL arrive and drive and Id like to get out to Cali to do the same.  This way I can run a west coast track and not have to lug a car out there.   I also want to make sure the cars here are tested and fairly reliable.. so that the person that comes in has a good experience..

Well, that would rule me out as your West Coast contact...

Re: Miami FL New years.

I really want to as well but like a lot of other teams funding may be an issue.  After the back to backs in October hopefully we can re-evaluate and attend but if we blow another motor we may be done for quite some time.

2 out of 5 drivers/suckers of my team have signed up for this race (contributed cash to the war chest for entry fee/gas). We are driving our '91 Civic Wagon from Brooklyn NY to this race.

Re: Miami FL New years.

I'm dying to make this happen. We have a car in Indy that is 1100 miles away and a car in Dallas that is 1200 miles away. That's a hell of a road trip. The only way that I could see this happening is if I can make a Disney trip happen in the middle of it to mollify the wife and kids. NL put the true-24 bug in me.

What we need is a Lemons Wives Auxillary that would (a) be supportive of our habit and not immediately throw all of this into the wormhole and (b) give the wives and kiddos some organized off-track activities so that we would be free(r) to engage in this tomfoolery at a distance from home.

And I would pay serious homage to the first man who seriously suggests that to the wife and gets away from it without mockery, derision and/or an iron skillet to the noggin.

Bad news Pat! Judy just packed  the Iron Skillet, I would suggest wearing your helmet a full 72 hours starting Sept 9th-12th.

Re: Miami FL New years.

I'm trying to talk my teammates into doing FL as well...providing the car survives CMP next month that is.  smile

So what is the deal...will the track be lit?  The website says they have lights so that would be a huge plus IMO.

As far as the wife, mine is 100% on board with spending NYE in a much wamer climate.

Did you attend Summit Point with that car? I remember passing some crazy bastards in a lemonized Civic of some sort on US-whateverthehellthatroadwas just before the I-70 junction headed back into Maryland. I was so amused and/or tired that I took the wrong half of the split.

If that was you, you have HUGE balls driving that thing up and down the country.

Paul, please advise Judy that the Department of Homeland Security, in its peerless wisdom, has banned the interstate transport of hazardous weapons by airline travel from Utah to Texas.

However, if she's bringing it to cook me some breakfast, then that would be a welcome addition. (laughs evilly, ducks, runs, serpentine serpentine!)

Sure I do! Why do you think I run in serpentine fashion now? Makes it harder to hit me with a thrown skillet smile

Re: Miami FL New years.

So will the Track lights be on?..  If so I wont have to have more than the stock lights installed on the car,

All the West teams need to rent a car carrier and split it up with the 8 or so teams.. so it can start in Cali and pick up cars on the way thought the mid west.
New years in FL is nice..  70 deg.. mostly sunny.  And to race into the New years will beat out watching Time Square any Day.

Re: Miami FL New years.

We are planning on dragging the 200sx down there, 1300 miles from buffalo to retire it and have twisted new years.  We have 4 committed drivers now, so we are in pretty good shape.

Yeah, that's me and my crew. It's our third car in 3 years and the only one we've kept for more than one race. Living in NYC it's impossible (for us) to afford a garage space for a car. We've gotten regular insurance and plates for it so we can keep it on the street. Been street parking it since April (only one ticket!). The neighbors actually love us. Well, their kids do anyway.

We've driven the car to Summit Point and Stafford Springs this year. I'm super excited to see if this shit box will make it to Miami AND race for 24 hours. And because that is not enough, we're driving it back to New York afterwards.
