Then talk to the track managers. They're the one who give the thumbs-up to 24-hour races.
True 24s cut into my drinking time too much.

Plus they are too hard on equipment and people.........
They've been doing 25 hour races at Thunderhill for nearly ten years, now.
What prevents a 24 or 23.5 at TH?
I don't think it would be a good idea for me to get involved with the track management, as I'm not not a Lemons employee...

You're right, Thunderhill does allow 24-hour races. In the case of that track, you're going to need to call Jay and ask him why we don't have night Lemons racing there. I suspect it's because no track lighting + ghetto-ass junkyard lighting on $500 cars + complicated track with lots of elevation changes = Datsun 210 rolling end-over-end down the hill at the '07 Arse Freeze, but that's just my guess.
I like em better too. Really seperates the prepared folks from everybody else. Much more exciting and taxing.

But think about how cool the B210's lights will look going ass over applecart! Night racing rocks and we should have more of it. The Lamest Day was a hoot as was the recent Chump Car race we just did at GingerMan. Once the lights are aimed properly, it's awesome. junk lights and/or poor aiming = bad mojo!
Now all those crown vics will have an excuse to leave their a-pillar lights in.
At the 25 hour race they bring in self contained construction light rigs for the track and run the bypass over turn 5.
Friday night tech before the race would be fun and lights could be checked in the dark.

Those of us lucky enough to live in the Gulf region just got a full 24 added - New Orleans in November! You should have heard the shreaks of joy when the email came out. Instant (and happy) phone calls ensued.

That's true but from what I've been told NASA pulls that off by sending the local farmer who complains about the noise on a little vacation that weekend.
We ran there at the 1st Arse Freeze in '07 and we thought we had good lights until I went out in the dark after spending 4 hours repairing a broken oil pump. I couldn't see #$%@ and I had never been to the track before so I had no idea where to go. That was the most scared I've ever been in a race car. Ended up following the car ahead of me and hoping they didn't run off the course.
I talked to the track manager at Reno after the race there and was told they have no noise curfew so we could run a 24 there which was the plan for this year until the track went out of business. I really want to run a 24 there as I like that track because it is not a horsepower track like T'Hill.
Reno-Fernley is back open.
I'll be there in a few weeks.

I've driven in one 25 hour race at Thunderhill. For a Lemons event I think the danger is exponentialy worse. The night driving, the fatigue to both man and machine, can result in some serious carnage. I don't think there is any more risk of bodliy unjury - since a place like Thunderhill is very safe - it is physically and mechanically challenging way beyond any "normal" Lemons event. The costs can be quite staggering, even for Lemons, in terms of additional mounted wheels and tires, spare parts, drivers, food, fuel, (when can you party??) modifications to the car for lighting etc.
I'm sure if you wanted to enter the 25 hour race at Thunderhill in a Lemons car I bet you could, but a Lemons 24 hour race?? Very challenging to say the least
The 24 hour Chump race at Streets of Willow was a nearly RELIGIOUS experience. Anybody that says a 24 hour race is too long or too hard on equipment is a sissy wuss that has no business running in this series. A 24 hour race isn't long enough! I want a race that runs from 8pm Friday through 8pm Sunday. So what if your car breaks down for hours at a time. More track time = more seat time = more better. Period.
Dakar Rally maybe? It's 2 weeks long in Argentina and Chile.
The series is called '24 Hours of Lemons'.
Let's see more of that!

I'm all for more 24 hour races, but not at Thunderhill.
I loved the 24 Hour of Streets of Willow. Even thought the Gnome had every problem imaginable we still had a blast. I don't think racing at night is that much of a safety issue since the speeds tend to go down in the dark. Also, our friend in the B210 could well have done a spin cycle in the daylight. There have been plenty of rowdy crashes in the daytime too.
The 24 Hours of Lemons Thunderhill could cost 50% more to enter and there would be plenty of teams raring to go. Of this I am sure.
I was almost going to enter the Streets of Willow event myself just so I could drive at night (nobody else had the do$h to do it with me around holiday season--neither did I, but at the time I had 1 credit card that was not yet maxed out). But I didn't because of some rules like maximum track time per driver, rumors of helmet barcode scans and so on.
When the 2010 Lemons schedule came out and it was revealed that Cuba Norte was going to be a true 24hrs, I already made the commitment to be there even if I was the only one!
I understand the track difficulties and logistics (and especially the toll it takes on the Lemons staff), but it WOULD be nice to have at least one 24-hour event per region so the name of the race actually makes sense (I'm sick of explaining to others that it's actually only 16 hours spread over 2 days and not a true 24 hours)
The most dangerous turn at TH is 15, in my opinion.
People exit the turn too fast, lose control and strike the wall at pit entry instead of going out into a wide open field..
I've seen this over and over...Always in the day time.
Sears would be the ultimate 24 hour race, though.

What is it about TH that concerns you?
Did you see this video of a team that was testing prior to the 25?

You can see the rear wing enter the passenger side door during the roll over.

I want to race in the night.
Me too.
It is the TWENTY FOUR hrs du Lemons after all.
I like both formats. I definitely want to do at least one 24 hour race each year. They offer different challenges, and there's something special about that 4-6 AM shift. I thought I would hate it, but it was sort of surreal to run at that time. Made me think about the guys running LeMan and Daytona...

Jay just looked up but does not know why.
