10th place at the '09 Yeehaw It's Texas, 7th place at the '10 Gator-O-Rama, 8th place at the '10 Yeehaw It's Texas! Swine Flew Raycing and their Infiniti J30 are showing that Japanese luxury dominates in Lemons racing. Their best lap time of 2:02.121 is right up there with the quick cars, they haven't had mechanical problems to speak of, and they're doing it with an automatic.

So when you're shopping for a Lemons car, skip the E30s and the RX-7s and go with a J30, Legend, Q45, LS400, or 929!

SHHHHHH! That's my theory too.. I've found a team member to do the cage, so the Lex will be ready to roll for next season... Though the J30 is a LOT smaller than the monster luxobarges.

"Don't mess with Lexas!" LS400. We survived another one! See website link for build details.

They also are good drivers, nice guys..
We pitted next to them in Tx.  I was amazed how fast the car is.  And the Auto has held together for 3 plus races.

+1. We've pitted next to them twice.

They passed us with about 10 minutes left on Sunday and held on to finish 8 seconds ahead of us for 8th place. The car really flies through carousel...

I believe those are OEM J30 wheels with the centercaps removed...

J30s are 300ZXs in disguise. Seriously.

Excellent point.

Re: Has anyone noticed how well the Infiniti J30 has done?

Easy.  A 25-year-old $500 sports car has been likely put through the ringer by one or more young male drivers and is genuinely beat to shit.  A 25-year-old J30 likely spent its first 10 years being driven by a yuppie who may not have known anything about cars, but at least kept it well-maintained and didn't flog the snot out of it.  And after that, it was just a second-hand luxury car and driven in much the same manner, perhaps with a lesser degree of regular maintenance.

Or... when a sports car reaches "beater status", a young kid will buy it (to "fix up") and beat on it harder.  When a luxury sedan gets even close to "beater status", nobody wants it and it gets put out to pasture.

It just comes down to how much abuse the car is likely to have seen in its lifetime.

Re: Has anyone noticed how well the Infiniti J30 has done?

The J30 is more or less a 4 door 300ZX.  The rear suspension and motor are basically Z32.

I think the front suspension is more like a Z31 or 240SX though.

The original Maxima is more or less a 4 door 280ZX.

The 4 door G35/37 are more or less the modern day version of the 4 door Z.

All J30s have an LSD too.  I'm trying to make one work in our 240Z.

Re: Has anyone noticed how well the Infiniti J30 has done?

I think they don't suck because the Lemons drivers haven't figured out they have a Z car. If they did know they'd flog the $#!+ out of it and blow it up.

I dunno mang, none of the J30 wheels I have seen have that much dish. These are the closest I've found:

I still think they're Town Car wheels. I know that 300ZXs use 5x4.5" lug patterns like Fords, so I'm pretty sure the J30 does.

Sorry, I'm kind of a geek about identifying OEM wheels. I also enjoy identifying the source of automotive lights on motorhomes. Yes, I'm broken.

I think we may have been separated at birth.  Can you ID tire sizes from across the street?  What about IDing the source of tail lights on utility beds.

Re: Has anyone noticed how well the Infiniti J30 has done?

Mmm, 90s Japanese luxury.  Okay, I'll admit it--before I ended up the owner of one disgusting Chevy Beretta, my formula for Lemons glory involved an Acura Vigor.  Several potential candidates came and went, but none were equipped with a manual transmission.

Has a 929 ever run Lemons?  I have a buddy who used to own one, and I still chide him for getting rid of it.

Re: Has anyone noticed how well the Infiniti J30 has done?

I've looked up and seriously considered several 929s when scouting Lemons cars. my teammates at the time may have been way too scared to approve going forward with that plan

No, but not for the lack of Judge Phil suggesting it.

Not so good with sizes, but yeah, utility beds and motorhomes frequently used automotive sourced lights.

929 parts are expen$ive. Remember that was gonna be part of Mazda's luxury line ala Acura, Lexus, Infinity.
