I know you can buy nomex thread don't know about yarn though.

I am now on a quest to find Nomex yarn. My wife is a knitter, and I think I need some hand knit Nomex socks before Buttonwillow. I have regular Nomex socks, but they are thin and got stained blue from my shoes.

A nomex scarf would look rather nice blowing in the breeze as you drive.

I had my wife looking into this since she sells things she knits and crochets - I figured it would be a good niche business for the vintage racer set. Everything we found was a little cost prohibitive to get started.

Also - I wanted a Nomex towel so I could stay hoopy while I was driving.

Let me know what you find.   I can just imagine our wives sitting there knitting at Buttonwillow.   It may start a new fad!   :-)

just talked to her about it. apparently the yarn available is similar in size to that the machine made socks are already made of (see Mulry's link). This makes it next to impossible to knit by hand. It is doable, but won't be able to be completed in a reasonable amount of time, let alone by buttonwillow.

The mental image of a bunch of racer's wives sitting around knitting nomex socks is hysterical though.
