We didn't have as many penalties as in past CMP races, and the contact incidents were definitely down, but the level of driver anger and general red-mistiness was way higher than what we're used to at CMP. I think most of this is due to the increasing intensity of competition, as drivers who are now on their fifth Lemons race have become pretty damn fast.

I was on a team that had one of the "red-mistiness" drivers.  It was more out of frustration than competitiveness though.  When you're trying to run a clean race and get slammed into, it sucks being held accountable for it.  Of course, your race, your rules, it's what we signed up for.  Still had a great time and even with a total of 5 BF's, we were still out on the track when the race ended Sunday.

Looking forward to coming back again, thanks for everything!

Re: CMP Sout Fall 2010

Our wheel fell off at the end of the first hour. Huuuuge thanks to the team that loaned us the impact socket to pull our wheel hub nut. Was in such a rush to get the car back on the track that I didn't get your name or car.

The traffic was INTENSE. It was like the DC beltway, except people aren't actively trying to hit you.

c'mon now.  people on the DC Beltway will hit you if you aren't following along with the status quo.......

sure, they try to avoid you.  at first.

half of our black flags went to our arrive and drives for going 4 off... but in their defense it was the first time they were ever in the car... and they are great guys - which is wierd for spec E30 racers - one of which was new to Lemons! Sean and Andy, I look forward to racing with you again!

Speedycop kept getting hit during his first session... and we got called off cause we were smoking due to an over serviced tranny...

Jalopy7 (the caddy killer from Nelson Ledges - who will never live that down) was the only driver to race clean all weekend!!!

oh and our car does not like the rain... ran like crap and was off and on the rest of sunday...

Thanks to the Lemons organizers.  The Index award has made a lot of old guys happy. Our average driver's age is over fifty and I was really proud of how they held up in the heat and the downpour.  We really had a great time.  Even considering headlights and a trip to Florida for New Years.

By the way, we're looking for anyone with video of us (#138, black Grand Prix, BUMPER CAM written on the rear bumper) dropping its front wheel and careening off into the abyss at the end of the front straight. It happened about 1 hour in.

I may have something if the camera lasted that long.  (I forgot to dump some old video and ran out of memory sad)  I was about a half a lap behind you and remember seeing all the dust from where you hit the sand trap.  I'll look today when I get a chance (at lunch) and let you know.

We ran the other series last weekend at Sebring. Since it was only 90 min from the house it was a no Brainer.

It was the Short club coarse, 1.4 miles i think.  32 cars and great fun.. No traffic jams, a little warm but no rain..
Video here.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyEU8DfAAlU
11.5 hours, we got to run at night..  only 5 black flags over 11 hours due to passing under yellow. No cars colliding, a few hit the wall at the hairpin due to brakes overheating..

I am really looking forwards to the 24 hour race in Miami..  weather should bee cool by then and I want more night racing..  and its on a 4 hour drive to get there

I also want to thank SpeedyCop, who graciously loaned us his welder during quiet hour so we could put our exhaust back together and get back out on the track.  We lost a lot of positions because of the fix, but it held and all of our drivers got back out for some fun on Sunday afternoon.

Anytime. Glad we could help.

I think the last hour was the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel. I was on the ragged edge (literally, at times) playing with that 351W Mustang, and working through the rest of the field (including the winner) in the process. The other driver and I talked afterwards about how we both really enjoyed the cat and mouse game in traffic. Seriously, I haven't had a battle that good since Easter, and that was against Tony Stewart at VIR!

We had no luck (trans failure/swap, brake caliper failure/swap, hub failure/swap, electrical failure/repairs, and got hit multiple times), but we still had a blast, and turned the third fastest lap of the weekend. I guess finishing 52nd in a car we hoped could win overall would be considered a failure by most, but we had a blast anyway. Thanks to Duff Beer for the caliper grease, to Christine for the rum cake, and to the staff for another fun event. See you guys in Chicago!

OH, I forgot to thank Police Brutality for supplying us with some chain to replace our coathanger-based exhaust hanger with with. The coathanger frankly worked better, but the chain made the tech guy happy. Or it would have if he bothered to actually look under the car before signing off on the sheet.

Huh, I suppose that chain is haunted by the spirits of derby cars, since the only body panel on the GTP that doesn't have collision damage on it now is the trunk lid.

Re: CMP Sout Fall 2010

Jeff (Speedycop), you and Tom were truly life savers for the Infidel Race Team.  You guys finding the electrical problem allowed up to race again until we made a couple of off track excursions in the rain and then one final one from the wet track.  As it was our third Black Flag of the day meant we were through with about three hours to go.  A huge and sincere thanks to you for helping us out.

Also I want to publicly apologise  to anybody we tapped, hit or plowed into. On the final turn before the front straight away I got tapped and hammered somebody pretty good.  I felt really bad about it as we were both black flagged off the track.  I told Judge Jonny it was my fault and hopefully he let you go without a penalty as he said he would ..... Sorry :-(

We were the black Fox-bodied Mustang #3 with white Lemons stripe and the pink bow for breast cancer on the hood.   From the back we offered "Free Breast Exams" .

Re: CMP Sout Fall 2010

Even though there were 100 cars on the track, the driving was much, much better than our first race (the 2009 Fall Race).  Only a few cars used the "all the way on the inside to all the way to the outside" plan for going through the turns.  Dry track, people got aggressive, but I think the overall quality of the cars and the understanding of the drivers of what Lemons is have improved, making the track less of a hazard, and more of a, well, track.

I got to run the Sunday morning rain fest and im glad i had on a full face helmet so no one could see the stupid little kid grin on this 44 year olds face. It was great.

Ha!  I've only done one Spec E30 race...and now 7 Lemons races!  Andy is the big spec racer, this was his first crapcan race.

The 4 off was from brake fade at the end of the front straight.  Jeff told me what to do to prevent it, but that got lost in all the jumble of crap coming at me all weekend.  Some practice would have made a huge difference but alas transmission swaps and all-important themeing were first priorities.  That was my first black in 6 races!

We both had a great time.  I'm pretty worthless mechanically so I busied myself with all the menial crap that has to happen.  You know, like driving to North Charlotte at midnight to get a new transmission out of some ricer kid's garage, running to Wal-Mart for any and every waterproofing agent we could find, and shaking the spiders out of driver suits.

Good times, hope to run with y'all again!

Re: CMP Sout Fall 2010

Definately, Sean.

Infidel, I gotta admit I laughed my ass off when your driver came out for his stint after being told to go slow on the slick wet track, and spun out on his very first turn! Shortest stint I've ever seen in Lemons, less than one lap. Next time he'll be overly cautious...

Just out of curiosity, what kinds of speeds were y'all hitting on the main straight? I could hit about 85-90 in the 240sx, which was faster than I had expected to be going... I imagine some of the powerful cars probably broke 100?
