Topic: Parts car

Newbie here. we found a complete car that is a twin to ours, wish we would have found this one first.
We are thinking of buying this one, and just bring the whole thing with us for extra parts, any problems with this idea?
We can't see where it would count towards the $500 limit.

Re: Parts car

We are racing parts cars, add a rool cage and have two cars.

Seriously, people do bring parts cars but some tracks get kinda crowded so try to be considerate.

Re: Parts car

Bring it.  Just like any other spare part that you bring, it doesn't count toward your budget.  Parts replaced during the race are generally overlooked for budgeting purposes, even if you have to run to the parts store and buy them.

It's the "race car" as it reaches the starting line that is expected to meet budget.

And if your running a common car you might set your self a nice parts selling business.

Even if its uncommon you never know what part someone can modify to work in a pinch.  Any parts are good parts at Lemons smile

Re: Parts car

We bring a second car to the track, it comes in 5 big blue totes and the engine and trans sit in the back of the truck. Like Troy says...be considerate about space when you bring your second car. Leave it on the trailer and out of the way until you need it.

Hey, and if someone gets the Arc-angel black flag the judges can always come to you for interesting pieces of scrap to attach to another car!

Re: Parts car

Parts cars don't count against the $500 limit, unless you've used its parts to build the car prior to the race. If you buy a couple of bad cars to make one good one, you have to account for the cost of both cars, but you can also sell parts off both cars.

If you bring a parts car to keep your race car going during the race, that doesn't count against the $500 limit... unless you do something like swap the VTEC B16 out of your "parts car" for the D15 we saw during your Civic's BS inspection visit on Friday night.

Re: Parts car

We brought a parts car with us to MSR.

We nick named it O-Neg.

Had to swap some struts Saturday night after we blew them both up on the track.

Sunday we cut a radiator hose.  O-neg was happy to donate.

We drove a Porsche 924S -- and we figured who knew what parts we might
need -- and lord only knows where we'd find Porsche parts
around MSR.

Thus we snagged us a future Lemons -- best part was it cost us $10 more then our
actual racer :-)

Maybe next year we'll run both.....

One of our drivers is driving a turbo coupe to the race, so he may not be driving it home;)
