Topic: eletric and pit area for Miami

I was looking over the data sheet for the Dec event.
I see that power can be purchased, but I assume this is for camping.
I have called the track 3 times and left messages, no one has returned my call. But this is normal for PBiR I have had to deal with this track in the past and they are a bit  unprofessional

Does any one know about the pit area? Are there  spots to rent?  Is there power in the pit area? Since its a 24 hour event power and lights would be nice.

Thanks

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

From other posts on the issue I've seen, plan to bring a generator. I suspect it'll be just like Nelson Ledges, minus the 8" deep mud...

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

I got a call back today..  The only power is Outside the track in the camping area. This is what they charge $55 for this hookup.

There is no Power in the pit area. So bring a generator. Also I dont know if we are going to have access to the paved area. They dont charge for the pits, but I dont know if they are covered pits.

Has any one been out to the track since the change from Moroso to PBIR?

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

The pit area is not covered - nor is there electricity nearby.

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

Does any race track have a covered pit area? roll
CMP has 20 or so covered "stalls" in the paddock that you can rent for $125 for the weekend. Why would anyone expect the pit area to be covered, even at a NASCAR or F1 venue?

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

Texas had covered ones with Power for rent.  Sebring also does.  Plus CMP as listed above.

I am ok with renting a bay, if it has power and is dry..  FL has rain..  I want to be able to keep the tools dry.
Plus being a 24 hour race I would like to have light during the PM hours.  We have a generator but that just creates alot of noise with 50 or so of them running all night.

So looks like we will be bringing the 28 foot enclosed trailer for cover and generators..

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

Hah, there's gonna be a lot more than 50 generators running.

Well, sort of. They are covered with a solar shield, which is nice for keeping the sun off you, but they let water through. As we found out to our detriment several times throughout the last Houston weekend. Still better than being out in the direct rain, but it kind of gives you a false sense of security from the weather.

It was nice to have power right there on the post though. 110v and not huge amps, but good enough for recharging radio batteries and the like.

Maybe we need a noise limit for the generators......like anyone is gonna be able to sleep in the paddock.

You'd be surprised what you can sleep through if you're sufficiently tired.

A noise limit for generators? Seriously?

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

We have a honda copy generator, very low noise, it gets a bit noisy when under a heave load. Usually when powering the compressor.  But the compressor itself is noisy so its a wash.
I hope there are at least infield lights for the pit row so that we can see when walking around.
I know the track does have huge lights for racing, its just if they will be turned on.  I know that some tracks charge about 1 grand a hour to have the lights turned on.

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

Shit, with all of our generators we could power the track lights. Except they probably run on 660v.

Power isn't the big expenditure for huge lights - it's the wear and tear on the bulbs. The bulbs are expensive, and changing them is equally expensive.

That would make my plan to bring a half dozen generators to my next event very difficult.  Anyone want a bunch of 2kW single cylinder air cooled diesel gen sets?

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

I don't even know how loud the generator (my brother-in-law's 6.5K) I'm bringing will be... hopefully it'll be a little quieter than the 8.5KW Troy-Bilt our neighboring team loaned us at CMP.

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

One of our teammates has a Troy-bilt generator to power his trailer. It's so loud he built a box to enclose it. It helped, but we loaned him our Yamaha so he and his wife could sleep easier.

Id be interested in a diesel generator.  Living in FL  we use our every year during Hurricane season.

Got any pictures of them?

Re: eletric and pit area for Miami

We tend to use a team mates quiet Honda or Yamaha but it didn't really matter when the guys next to us at MSR were running a loud one.

If we would have had enough output from a quiet generator for both of us, we could have shared.

I just picked up an old RV to scrap that I want to pull the Onan from and install in the trailer.  Hopefully I can get enough muffler on it to keep the noise down.

Otherwise, I've got a 6.5 loud generator with a Robin engine.  It's quieter than most like it but it ain't a Honda EU.

Yes. I've been to the dragstrip several times. As for the road course, for spectators it sucks. The only part of the track that will be visible to them is the end of the long straight and the big 180 degree turn. Thats it, unless you pay to get in the paddock area.

Also, The paddock area is far too small. I'm sure they will have to limit how many vehicles are allowed in.

I'd LOVE to see LeMon's run a race at Sebring. I went to a ChumpCar race there, and using only the Club Course there was plenty of space. When you using the Whole course there, they could handle any amount of cars and spectators. Spectating at Sebring is one of the best tracks there is.

so where exactly are the electrical outlets at PBIR?  are they anywhere near the track?  are they solely for RV parking / camping?
