Topic: E30 build~ I know, yawn...

May find it's way onto the Lemons circuit someday, but I highly doubt it.

The car was built for a customer that wanted a reliable track car.
It was built as a trainer for student/instructor.

Big thanks to John at Evil Genius for the high quality pre-bent cage kit.
No issues with fitment. Everything went right together.

I have about 56 hours from street car to finished track-ready car.

Besides the cage, seats, harnesses and interior gut, I flushed the brake fluid for Motul, added SS brake lines and Porterfield race pads.

After install of springs, struts and alignment on Thursday, I'll weld on the quick release steering wheel hub.

Fun project.

Clean!

Are weld on quick-release steering wheel adapters cheaper than bolt on? I got my hub adapter AND quick release for $35 used.

Re: E30 build~ I know, yawn...

The set-up we are going to use is about $100 for both.
Longacre release and an I/O Port adapter for a Sparco wheel.

The car owner did not go cheap.
The seats, belts and wheel were about $2000~ all new.

I'd like to build another car for somebody using more used parts to keep the costs down.

Re: E30 build~ I know, yawn...

Do you have (or could you take) more photos of the cage? Especially the points where the cage attaches to the unibody and the rear strut braces? Given that this is an Evil Genius-designed cage, I assume that it would pass tech, and seeing those attachment points might be quite instructive for the entire community. Thanks!

Without a doubt!
The car only needs a fire bottle and electric cut-off switch to breeze through tech.

Re: E30 build~ I know, yawn...

Did you tie the down tubes into an aftermarket sway bar bracket like intended or just weld it to teh floor?

Re: E30 build~ I know, yawn...

Just welded to floor.

Re: E30 build~ I know, yawn...

Harness bar is too low unless the driver is torso challenged.

I suppose if you measured the angle from seat exit hole to the bottom of the tube.
Notice the belts come over the top of the bar, though and enter at a good angle.

If the car does become a Lemons car some day, the harness bar will need to be replaced with  a curved one to accommodate taller drivers and a sliding seat mount.

Thanks for looking!

Re: E30 build~ I know, yawn...

Car is all done!

Drives fantastic. Owner and I are both thrilled.
Good ride height, handling and feel.

He wants new wheels and track tires.
