Topic: Suggestions on fix cage problem

We are moving our cage into our 92 Ford Escort. We are having problem with the rear strut mount point

We are thinking putting square stock in between and weld to that.

Any other ideas?

Make a box out of 3/16 plate.

Fine. It fits great. These are the only points that come up short.

Re: Suggestions on fix cage problem

Using card stock to make a template, make a box out of 3/16 plate like trekkor says.  You probably want something perpendicular to the sheet metal at the strut tower so the 3/16 plate isn't on edge to the thin sheet metal.

Square stock perpendicular to the towers would work if you were up against something flat but from here it doesn't look like it would work in this case.

cut the weld on the underside of the back stay to main hoop, and fold upward until it contacts the rear struts.should only be about 5 degrees.
or
buy new tube. it's only $4.50 / foot. that is about $30 in DOM and it will look better than a big box on the end.

These are the rear stays? Cut them off where they attach to the main hoop. Buy new material and make proper length stays. Way easier and safer than trying to make boxes.

Correct, make new rear stays.

Re: Suggestions on fix cage problem

I suggested boxes because with the new rules on spreader size, combined with the rounded surface in the back of that car, you'll likely need boxes anyway.

Re: Suggestions on fix cage problem

I would also cut off that mounting plate and make your new bar go the whole way to the strut tower.  That mounting plate will crush easily.
