Topic: Residual Value?

Hello,

We bought a car from someone that was a previous Lemons car for $200 + safety gear:

Pretty much like that one. Actually, exactly that one. We need to put a new engine in it, but we don't know which rule applies: Is it a $200 car, or does it have 'residual value' from the previous race (The owner said they laughed, and didn't assign him any.).

It's a '81 Plymouth Sapporo btw.

You bought it for $200, I'd say that's the value. Unless you do some major modifying, I don't see you getting much flack at BS.

1. $200 is about the best you can hope to get for a residual on that.  That gives you $300 for a motor, or an unwise motor/trans swap.  You can do it.

2. Try getting greedy and email Jay reminding him about the flywheel being welded to the crank in a heroic fix attempt.  You might get a residual greater than $200 though.  I wouldn't chance it.

3. Or, don't worry so much about  the $ and install a sensible slant six or PRV from the U Pull and Pay.  FWIW, there was a Sapporo at Western Auto Recycling on Federal a couple months ago, there's a chance it might still be there?

Gator-O-Rama 2012 "Organizers Choice" -2 laps 1 trophy, but i still finished ahead of an E30
Yee-Haw 2013 No trophy -26 laps, I think I see a pattern here

Lucky bastard...  Someone removed all the cupholders from our car, I had no place for my Big Gulp last race.  I'm hoping we can get the AC working for next time, those summer races in Texas can get quite warm.

You paid 200 dollars for a car that may very well be "good enough" to pass tech.  The car is free in my opinion if the cage is good.  Just get it running without a cheaty engine and don't use a bunch of new parts and you'll be fine.

The judges love to see home made engine and go fast parts.  Spend a bunch of duckies on suspension and you'll see the evil side of Lemons.    Do Not skimp on safety items. 


Most of all have fun and create something that you are semi proud of.

And we plan to "cheat" with all the amazing horsepower whatever 2.6 DSM engine the junkyard can give us for about $200. We are looking at ghetto lowering it if we can... the damn thing is high enough to do the limbo under. Maybe a little weight in the back. Other than that, hoping it holds together.
