Ran at the 2010 Gator-O-Rama in Houston. Credit to Murilee for the photo.
The car started as a stock 1989 Ford Escort with the 1.9 CVH (Considerable vibration and harshness). We chopped the springs, added Focus wheels, and chopped the roof. It flew through BS like it was stuck in 5th gear! Sadly no hot chicks in bikinis. Just a bunch of dudes wearing T-shirts with the Fall Guy logo on the back and "Dialogue hell - Let's jump something" on the front.
I distinctly remember one judge, sadly I can't recall who, approaching the car, "Man, I love this!" As he looked around the car, poked and prodded, asked us about the suspension, etc, and finally opened the hood to the glory of a stock 1.9 with a bright yellow air cleaner, "Wow, what a piece of crap this is! Go on!"
I was heart broken. I had spent 3 hours the night before building a beautiful budget book and he didn't so much as look at it.
After the race in which the car spun Optimus Prime off the track.

The car did pretty well finishing around the middle of the pack. We drove just short of 600 miles and we could all swear to god it made more horsepower than it did when we started. The good news is that with a factory rating of 80 hp, it was hard pressed to break anything.
My favorite feature was wiring the flash to pass to control all 8 lights and also hooking it up to a "bad boy" horn tucked behind the bumper. I distinctly recall one moment when I was making a poor judgement pass on the pit straight around a MR2 while another car was passing on the other side of the MR2. I was in the blind spot of the MR2 and he was merging me towards the wall so I gave the horn a quick blast right by his window to let him know I was there. At that time I was listening to someone on the two way talking when the driver suddenly yelled, "SON OF A BITCH!" and the MR2 swerved slightly away. Made my freaking day.
