Topic: I was in Brazil last week and had to take some pictures of the cars :)

First, i apologize, the whole reason i was there was for business so it necessarily meant i was in the industrial side of Sao Paulo. not exactly the place you want to be wandering about taking pictures of cars looking like a damn tourist. That means all these pictures are taken from the comfort of a taxi with tinted windows.

but enough of that, onto the fun stuff:

let's start with badge identification:

i had to look that up to know what you were talking about. while there is quite a bit i did not get pictures of, i don't think i saw one of those while i was down there.

I'll be back down there for business so i'll keep an eye out in the future. i need to take an extra day and hit up a junkyard to get car badges for bribes smile

I was an engineer on that Ranger crew cab back in 1995.  It's a 1 ton and has a 2.4L turbo diesel that was once used in Land Rovers.  It's a pretty nice little truck.

oh, wow. it never occurred to me that the suspension would have been uprated to a 1ton.

that's pretty awesome!

They recently had the navistar 2.8L engine in there that i saw while i was in brazil (I work for Navistar and that's why i was down there)

I think my favorite Brazilian car, other than the Willys Aero, is the Simca Esplanada. How can you not love a car based on a Simca-ized French Ford chassis, equipped with an Ardun-ripoff OHV conversion on a Ford flathead V8-60, styled to resemble a mid-60s crypto-Dart, and sold by Chrysler?

You, too?!  I was down there at the end of January.  But I skipped Sau Paulo and went down to Canoas and Caxias.  Spent most of my time in a humid conference room in Caxias.

I'll send you an email so you can reach out to me on the corporate side if you like.

there's all kinds of interesting stuff down there that is coppied from other stuff.

The troller T4 is an example i saw: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Troller.jpg

the company is now owned by ford. so in Brazil Ford makes a blatant copy of a jeep product. but hey, at least they put a diesel in it smile

Hey, we got a Chevy S-10 4 door like that in the USA. Chevy sold at least 100 or so of them before the Colorado came out.

Oh. I'm more of a Ford/Toyota guy and I admit I did not double check my facts smile

Have you never seen/heard of/owned a Subaru Brat?! Apparently not considering how enthralled you were by the compact truck/car/mpv/awesome-mobiles that were all clearly styled after the aforementioned aptly name vehicle.

I'll also assume you've never been to CA since lane-splitting was so foreign to you.

Are you by chance of Canadian decent? No reason in particular other than i love stereotypes and ethnic profiling

smile

When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge of out of control.

i do know about the Brat. but i live in the rust belt so there's no way i could own one around here.

and yes, i know about the lane splitting. but from what i understand about California you can't lane split above 25 or 30mph faster than the car traffic. in this case they were doing 60-70mph more than the car traffic. in some cases running in the opposing lane around blind curves at these speeds.

and yes, i am a Canadian living in the US and i'm sure i've mentioned it a few times on the forum but i'm not sure what of this thread gave that away. care to share?
