Topic: Fuel cell rules. Teams with fuel cells please read
For 2013 we will be defining a fuel cell in the rules.
It must have these three components to be considered a fuel cell:
1. A purpose built fitted metal exterior case.
2. An internal flexible or semi-flexible containment device inside such as a bladder.
3 Full anti-splash internal foam.
If it doesn't have those things, it's not really a cell, regardless of what the manufacturer calls it when trying to sell it to you....
Plastic tanks, aluminum tanks, etc are not going to pass.
This is whether or not the cell is FIA rated. An FIA rated cell doesn't require a fire wall between it and the driver, all other cells do.
This isn't really a new rule, when we say 'Fuel Cell' we always meant just that, a real cell. This will just be defining what we mean and enforcing it.
So, you will have to have a stock tank in stock location or a real fuel cell.
Feel free to ask any questions. I'll answer as quickly as I can.
As in all my pre-new-rule posts, this is not yet official until the rules are posted, but is very likely to happen... Waivers will not be granted on fuel issues.
