Topic: Top Gear America - Feb 12

We can skip the ongoing argument about its quality/watchability...
But Top Gear last night hit on several of my automotive heartstrings:

RVing creatively

Cutting a Honda in half

Infield during a race weekend

GM convertibles with a 455cid

I laughed a lot when I felt a 'been there-done that' moment... particularly with the Honda.

The show had quite a bit of the Lemons spirit in it !

Re: Top Gear America - Feb 12

Tell me a little more about this RVing creatively, please?

Re: Top Gear America - Feb 12

One guy had a Porsche 928... put a missile/rocket-looking thing on top of it... had a sleeping bag and an alarm clock in it. Was said to look like the Russian military parade machines of old.

One guy had the Centurion convertible- put on top of it a decent replica of the Flatiron building from N Y City... very top-heavy but durable.

Last guy cut the 90 Civic wagon in half and installed an extendable frame that allowed for a 4 foot opening between front and back halves... installed a tarp over the area during the camping sessions.

They then drag-raced them, put the hurricane water fans on them, and finally raced them against real RV's at the Charlotte Dirt Track. The Honda was declared the winner, mostly by default.

Granted, it was not necessarily SENSIBLE creative RVing... but it was entertaining.

So, besides the honda, it was a copy of the British RV challenge.

Re: Top Gear America - Feb 12

I wept for that 928 it actually looked like it was in good shape.

Overall the segment was great though.  No its not the British Top Gear, but its actually really entertaining now that they actually get along.

Watch really early TG episodes, they are just as awkward as these guys were the first season.

So, the entire series is a copy of the British show.
