Topic: Bad 93 octane fuel from the Mobil station at MMC
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about issues with the fuel from the Mobil nearest to the track at MMC. If you bought 93 octane there I strongly suggest you inspect your fuel system / replace fuel filters before the next race.
We bought around 50 gallons of 93 from them Friday morning when the tanker truck was filling. We had an odd intermittent power cut that started during Friday practice and then got severe toward the end of Saturday. When we came in to the pits at the end of the first race day the fuel pump was screaming.
We pulled off the feed to the fuel rail and ran the pump to drain the tank and only got a trickle... After dropping the tank we looked at the pickup sock and it was completely clogged. This is what it look like after we cleaned it as best we could.
At that point about half our fuel jugs were filled from Stewart's and half from Mobil. We started running each through coffee filters. The Stewart's fuel was squeaky clean but the Mobil looked like this:
I heard from people who had no problems with 87 purchased there. We may have only had problems with the 93 because we filled while the tanker was there churning up all the crud on the bottom.
