Topic: Gutting my pig!

I'm gutting my car and would like to know if I'm allowed to remove; Fender wells in front, radiator support(It's rotten and falling apart), doors except for skins, and front and rear hood support  metaland hinges? Skins and hoodpins would sure be lighter ...roof  support material? Thanks!

Re: Gutting my pig!

You can remove anything and everything.  It needs four wheels, brakes, a cage and some sort of lump that makes it move under its own power.  Beyond that, do what you want.

You might want to keep the floor under the driver in tacked, and maybe the passenger side. It is a real bitch to get all of the dirt out of everything when you go spinning off the course and your car acts like a vacuum sucking it all in.
Keep the firewall too, the judges do like a clean firewall.

Re: Gutting my pig!

Unless your driver's window is huge, I'm guessing that any times savings from weight reduction will be lost in time struggling to get the next driver in the car. Same for passenger side. (It's a lot faster to have two guys helping the driver in, particularly if you have different waist sizes and need to tighten the lap belts really tight.

You need a complete metal surface between you and the gas tank.

Personally, I like lots of metal between me and things that burn, like engine bays. I also like as much meat as possible between me and the idiot next to me.  And personally I want to be sure I can get the hell out as fast as possible, even if the car is lying on it's left side and burning.

Re: Gutting my pig!

If you want to run your car in "other" crap can events you may want to go out to their sites and look at the rules. Some of the require fenders and doors. If you built the car to compete in all the event you will get more bang for the $$.   Vs having a car you can only use with one group.

Re: Gutting my pig!

I'll definetly have fenders and doors. But just the "skins".
