I don't think anybody has run a rabbit diesel! I have a 1965 Hillman Super Minx that came from the factory with a Perkins Diesel engine in it. I have thought about entering it but it is one of fifty that were ever produced with the diesel in it so i cant bring myself to cage it. I think a lot of people are starting to understand that speed is not the defining factor. Staying on the track as long as possible is. I say go for it with the rabbit it would be cool for sure.
Secret turbo diesel Rabbit...
I would convert.

My girlfriend in highschool had a diesel rabbit....man that thing could barely get out of its own way...BUT it got GREAT mileage.....50 mpg I think.....add a bigger tank and you would only be limited by driver fatigue!!!
One of the newer TDI turbos would be super cool too, but too pricey for a while still
I have tried to find them but not many here in Arkansas. Those turds seem to keep running so not many in my budget.
Richard,
I'd be afraid to go the turbo diesel route fearing that the turbo would
greatly reduce the reliability and make the fuel savings a mute point.

Iirc there was a diesel rabbit at one of the early events. They painted it like one of the audi r8r's.
Don't remember which event, but yes, there has been a diesel rabbit/jetta entered.
A factory TD engine w/ the piston squirters and an oil cooler is a reliable unit, but still slower then any gas rabbit.
Due to their tremendous fuel economy, any VW diesel is in high demand, so it would be very difficult to get one running reliably for >$500. But it would be such a turd that the judges prolly wouldn't award BS laps just on principle.
At CMP some one ran a Diesel Golf. It lasted about 1/2 the race. It was the slowest car out there. Even the Diesel Mercedes was faster.
You may gain 5 to 8 laps each fueling, I would guess you would be lapped about 3 times a hour So over 8 hours thats 24 laps lost. And most of the 4 cyl cars can go with only 3 gas stops a day. So it be a wash.
If you want to do a diesel go find yourself a Peugeot :-). Might even be better than our gas one since there's bound to be fewer electrics to trip you up.
French cars with electronics that work.. Haaa. I laugh in your general direction.
Really the 505 turbo diesel is a great car. But I would rewire the starter- ignition, the 2 505 diesels I had this was a problem.
