Topic: Crazy Car Build - VW Golf / Rabbit 'Caddy'

I follow any number of mad scientist car builds, but few come close to this

Take an old and abused Golf (Rabbit) pickup 1.6 Dismal.

with a lot of rust

Obtain a VR6 Engine

That is 'known not to fit'

Add a 4-motion gearbox (for 4wd) action.

and associated rear axle (which is way too wide)

add a 'big ass' turbo

http://i34.tinypic.com/xds6le.jpg

and make your own head spacer to lower the compression a tad

and break out the welder in your front yard........

This is one insane project.

A few 'highlights'

He has already blow the engine up a couple of times chasing 500hp

The thing is now street legal in the UK

He has no formal engineering training.

Yes, he did cram this into the shell

Other than his horrible spelling, the guy is a genius.

We need something to introduce him to lemon racing.....

Hi Max!  big_smile

TST, fool.

It's a Bunny.  With a pancake.  On its head.  Really, is it that tough?

oh noes - I have a stalker

Re: Crazy Car Build - VW Golf / Rabbit 'Caddy'

This sorta reminds my of the time we took a 289 out of a Ranchero and plunked it down in the weeds next to a piece of construction scaffolding and some old Alfa parts. We realized, "dudes, we could put this on eBay as some kind of mystery barn-find special and make a million bucks!"

Re: Crazy Car Build - VW Golf / Rabbit 'Caddy'

I'm thinking that spacer is gonna be a problem.  The block is iron, the head's aluminum, and the spacer is steel?  Somehow I'm seeing steam power once everything expands at it's natural rate wink

Isn't there quite a bit of meat on the stock VR6 pistons you could machine off instead?  It'd reduce rotating mass too.

He can get get a head gasket from HPA.
