Randy, may I call you Randy? We appreciate your interest in our amateur racing endeavor. The thought of recreating a May-December romance that is complicated by a Nazi sympathy subplot is enticing. The reality of having to watch that movie for the next 11 months to truly understand the characters sounds like mental torment. I would like to share our theme for our cars. Here is the plot:

Professor Tony Farms discovers that he is really Puma Man, a superhero who is descended from the gods. Together with an Aztec priest, they try to thwart the plans of Kobras, who is in possession of the sacred puma mask, and plans to hypnotize government leaders with it and take over the world. Puma Man spends most of the movie flying awkwardly and jumping around, leaving the Aztec priest to perform all the physically demanding tasks. —Richard Kim (IMDB)

Yes, The PUMAMAN, well not exactly, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 representation of The Pumaman. In the film the villain car of choice is the Jaguar and in one particularly important scene the Pumaman tears open the roof of a MK1 to subdue agents of Kobras. Riveting.

I agree that cars of this vintage are more likely to be cancerous (mostly Corvairs though), I am thankful that these chassis do not suffer from such neglect.

Jagvair weekly update: Darryl came over and helped strip the 2018 race car, not too much drama. We found out some good things like the chassis is pretty rust free and solid. We found out some bad things like the front end is Mustang II and welded in. This evening I will finish stripping the body and figuring out where the new suspension will live.

As much as I love 59 year old British live axles, the Jagvair 2.0 gets a '91 Lincoln Mark VIII IRS. The thought of trying to rebuild or finding parts for the MK1 rearend, either by ordering parts from England or trying to cross reference bearings and seals sounds crazy. Tomorrow the engine goes in, trying to get it on four wheels by the weekend.

Engine's in! Still need to decide front to back location, but at least we can get to the spark plugs without drilling a hole in the windshield. Tomorrow finish cutting out the cross member and start designing front suspension.

Front suspension is mocked up. Going to set ride height and then locate the motor front to back. I bought some gravel in bags today to fill some holes in the driveway, should make good ballast for the driver and fuel cell.
It's nice to have a productive day on the race car. Mock up is done, basically need to move everything up 1 1/2". Car looks good with meats on, definitely need some wide ass flares. Tomorrow she gets weighed and motor mounts get fabbed.

Engine fits, check. Spark plug access, check. Gravel weight ballast, check. Not bad for the first engine, driver, and fuel cell mockup. She's a little heavy on the right, but the engine isn't leveled and straight yet. It was also nice to get a shout out from The 24 Hours of Lemons on their Facebook page as the new cover photo and LeMonsworld clip. RIP Jagvair, your memory lives on.

Is that in kilos? Or did you take a ton of crap (literally) out of that car? That cannot be in lbs. with the ballast in there, can it?

Weights are in lbs., car is totally stripped to bare chassis and is unibody. There are a few things that still need to be added: cage, bumpers, brakes, rack, springs and doors. These items should not throw the balance of the car too much, unlike the position of the motor. Jaguar - inline six power for the weight of a V8. Trying to keep it under 2230 lbs., 10 lbs per hp because race car.

Welcome to what I call "THE 50 SHADES OF THUNDER!" Not really fifty days, days 50 through 48 were spent building Ikea furniture, but now I'm back! Last night got the steering and front shocks in, and assembled the new brake caliper brackets. Tonight fuel cell and radiator, maybe sway bar mounts. In case you are wondering, those are Rancho RS9000XLs; and no, Jaguar XJs did not come with camber adjustable upper mounts. DOMINATION!

T minus 44 days: scrounged all the driveshafts and found out nothing works together. The Jag and the Lincoln have the same diameter, but not width. Will have to get some parts before that's finished. Put the exhaust together and have all the parts, just need to cut the exit hole in the rocker and weld in the mount.
