Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

I only have (ahem) one question...

...do you plan to wear the foundry suit on the inside of your driving suit, or the outside?

After 10 days of fabrication (and missing work), Her Majesty (AKA The Queen) made it on track and came home with some jewelry.

Sounds interesting, but my vote would have been for V12 plucked out of a free (or nearly free) XJS...

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

The V12 is too wide to put in the passenger seat for balanced weight distribution. Unless your willing to ride the driveshaft like a funny car. Wait, I think I hear my phone ringing, I'll be right back...

I want to thank my wife, Rindee, and my team for putting up with my crazy ideas and helping me bring them to life. I have met the nicest people racing Lemons and I am proud to be a part of this community.

Well with the change in season comes a change to Her Majesty. A new firewall to facilitate a new Intake manifold to give the driver some more room.

Helluva thread.  Surprised you junked the original Corvair rather than sell it.  What did you do, make a mudder out of it?

Wasn't much Corvair left when it was junked.

Messaged Turbo Yoda yesterday, now have a clear direction to finish Her Majesty's intake manifold. Ordered tubing and machining velocity stacks next week.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

You know if you put a turbo on that it would be easier to design the inlet manifold.
Just saying

What RPM range are you going for with that inlet runner?  Looks to be kinda long, and probably give tons of torque, but top end will just be an anticlimax.  will you be able to change the length without taking the whole intake off?

Horsepower:    223 hp @ 4750 rpm
Torque:    278 ft-lbs. @ 3650 rpm
Trans shifts at 5500

The longer the better. Current runner length is about 12 inches. Driving car in pretty anticlimactic now. Adjustable velocity stacks sounds interesting.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

You could also do like the old trans am cars and do half the stacks one length, and the other half a different length.  It help spread out how long the engine is at peak torque and HP.  They also did it because two velocity stacks the same size don't sit next to each other a easily.
