Do you have the part where the dude in the Diamante got out of the car and started wandering around, inspecting the damage?
I'd like to think that you are joking... but knowing that group, I can tell you aren't.
After looking at photos the car was damaged on both sides. After contact with a few other cars. What was he looking for a straight body panel?
i want to know how or why he got outside the PVC tubes behind the gators. i saw the tire tracks under yellow and i thought "no he dind'ant"
asshat
He blamed his brakes.
To Jay's credit he told them to fix it then come back to him as if they were going to race. "Then we are going to do some driving and, more importantly, some stopping before I let you back out there."

YA RIGHT.....it was faded brakes that caused him to enter that corner WAY TOO FAST.....at least he could have tried a more plausible story...like stuck throttle cable & faded brakes + brain fade....the driver should have known the brakes were dying and reduced his pace to compensate for it.....
I know, I know, it's all about having fun but It would have been REALLY hard to not pull that driver out by his/her helmet and just pummel the ^(*#@ out ot them!
Ok... a few things I saw... ONE... too fast as everyone else saw. TWO... with the delay going into the corner the Mitsu driver had enough time that he could have swerved to the left and missed the car. It was intentional... no doubt.
Personally a my 1/2" extension would have found the base of his skull.... just sayin...

in the idiot Mitsu's defense the grass was extremely wet. he would have done better to stay on the pavement while attempting a spin to avoid contact. but it is irrelevant actually as he was way in over his head from the get-go.

The only real way to determine if he was int eh wrong or not is to see his incar footage. I am willingf ot be there isn't any but this is the exact reason no driver should setup for a dive bomb.
The car in front of him can out corner that beast. And considering the delay between corner entry on both cars... he had time to avoid the collision. He cut hard in to hit the car intentionally.
I can tell you exactly what he did... he was set up on the inside, and when he realized his brakes were done, his brain went into panic mode - he just steered towards daylight.
Crap! I didn't see that, we were having too many issues of our own (#84 Mustang - the motor blowing machine). I had seen the Celica earlier & was lusting after it. How bad was it hurt? Did the Mitsu give any explanation other than cranial/rectal displacement?
The Celica took a pretty good hit :

But they got back out there.. the pix are from a post-crash black flag they earned.
The Mitsu took some time to get back out. They bent a control arm in the crash and had to make some modifications via propane torch and hammer to get the wheel back straight. Their explanation was brakes.. They were next to us in the paddock and I can verify that they torched their brakes a few times during the race. So much so that at one point they came in a bit too hot, overran their spot and ran straight into a table in team Red Rocket's extra spot, which was across from theirs.
I sincerely doubt they were intentionally trying to hit the Celica. That car was just awful. They did say that they would be back in May with brakes.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're entry is refused for the May race. You can only
take out so many cars before you start to draw attention to yourself! Nice driving
by Team Stevie Wonder!

Ohhh, greaaaaaat......

Either way they are in a LOSE/LOSE situation... either they have an unsafe car and are completely incapable drivers. Or they are overly aggressive assholes that can't control their emotions.
No matter what... they lose and people that pull that kind of shit (intentional or not) are not welcomed.

they were rice rocket rednecks from the local backwoods of South Carolina. i really do not believe they were malicious. they were stupid. should they be allowed back on track? i'd say sure but with a very very tight leash.
some of the stuff that seems to happen in the Cali races makes this minor in comparison.
obviously anyone competing against these guys will know enough to stay clear of them.

If they come back and drive the same way, put the curse to them!!!
Random Thought:
Can Lemons get a sponsor like D.H. Griffin or the like so they can demolish a car with explosives? Maybe a series of small explosives?
I don't hear tires until he hits the Celica, so I'm inclined to believe them when they say their brakes were trashed. We went through 3 sets of pads in the Civic in it's first race. Now we're running Hawk pads and Integra brakes.
I've also made the mistake of coming in way too hot on the inside of turn one. It's not an easy situation to get out of unless the guy on the outside sees it coming and pretty much stops to let you fly off track in front of him. Fortunately the speed difference at the resulting contact was not nearly so spectacular as this one, but I did manage to tear a hole in the Labrat's door. Not something I'd like to try again.
Glad nobody was hurt.

Even if it was the brakes the Celica was at apex when the mitsu hit him. He had roadway and time to cut hard left and avoid the situation.
A lack of tire squeel does not prove it wasn't intentional. If anything it leans more towards a targetted impact.
Watched it again. Looks like there was lots of space behind the Celica, but I'm still inclined to be generous and think it was brakes (which put him in a bad spot) + driver error (in not identifying the safer way out).
guys why so much debate.....clearly the celica didn't do ANYTHING wrong...a typical apex (for Lemons anyway)....the mitsu is clearly responsible for this one and it seems they had many other incidents over the weekend....these guys would earn my curse vote just for poor driving....
Did their poor driving or lack of preparing the brakes make the brakes fail...probably both.....I doubt the brakes that came on that sedan were up the challenge, but STILL they should have tried with steel brake lines, RACE pads and high temp fluid....thats the MINIMUM required for any racing...
there is a reason brakes are FREE.....take advantage of it....since saving a few $$$ & using stock brakes is a guaranteed failure point that can cost you the race or your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody blames the celica. Only question is whether it was purposeful on the part of the mitsu. I blame ignorance rather than malevolence. Hopefully they'll have learned something about car control and the importance of working brakes by the next race (should Jay allow it).
