Re: MSR Tx, What will it wear- break?

Really you are getting snow. I didnt realize it snowed in Tx..  Guess I cant complain about the 50 deg high here in FL..  with 38 lows.

Whatever you don't bring will break.  Guaranteed

Re: MSR Tx, What will it wear- break?

Supposed to be a low in the upper 40's and high in the upper 60's all next week.  Upper 60's would be awesome.

It doesn't typically snow here like this, but this winter has been different. We had a true White Christmas for the first time in the 15+ years that I've lived in Dallas.

I may hit up harbor freight for one of those 1 car garage tents they have if it look like rain.  Doesn't look too bad for $160.

Watch out in high winds....mine cracked the mounting feet and released the poles....scratched the hell out of my car. Tie it down like a tent fly if you expect wind. Held up to rain and snow well however.

Re: MSR Tx, What will it wear- break?

They have a pit area that one can rent out correct. ?
I recall calling and singing up for a garage? It was a pay by day deal.

Also Pep boys has some cheap under $100 pop up covers. Not really strong but work OK

Re: MSR Tx, What will it wear- break?

They don't have any garages for rent that I am aware of.  The only covered area I know if is by Longhorn Racewerks and that is their area.

Damn. That sure is a purty car........!!!

There are covered pit stalls that they rent. First come first serve. If you called and reserved one you're good. They have electrical hookups in them.

As for the weather..... Looks like ass for right now. Rain Friday 64 the high, Cloudy Sat., Rain Sunday, 59 the high. But you know those weather guys, they get paid if they are right or wrong. What a job.

Re: MSR Tx, What will it wear- break?

only 1 day for a set of tires and front brake pads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  WOW thats expensive....

I run Dunlop Direeza Star Spec Z1's on the 3150lb (racing weight) 928 Estate with Raybestos ST 43 brake pads....after approximately 20 hours on track the front tires are about 75%, the rears are 50%...and the brake pads are 75% or more....  I think we can complete Sears Poinltess on the same setup as Arse Freeze...mostly since more of the turns at Sears are right vs left at Thunderhill....

Those are all gone, we got the last one when we reserved it in January.

I had one similar to that which I got at Northern Tool. It was about 12x22 I think or something like that. I found that if you put two cinder blocks at the base of each of the 6 poles, then tie the horizontal frame member directly to the cinder blocks (foregoing the mounting feet almost entirely), then it would withstand some pretty serious wind too. The key is lashing it down tightly. Since I can never remember boy scout knot stuff, I picked up a few of these Figure 9 Rope Tensioners at Harbor Freight and they have been lifesavers:

You can get them at REI too, and probably about a million other places too. Cheers.

Does this track tend to be hard on brakes.? - No .. but you might lock 'em up going into Diamond's Edge. Lots of teams ended up flat-spotting b/c of that turn.

If we are running Hawk pads on a BMW e30  will we need 2 sets?  - Probably not ... we ran all day Sat. & Sun. with the same set of porterfields and were fine. (Follow up question - which Hawks? Blues, HP+, DTC-60?)

Tires? in the past we run one set each day. The car tends to eat the outer edges of the front tires, even with added Camber. - One new set should get you through, though I'd have 2 spares ready. (Our driver's side wore a little quicker than the passenger side)

Cooling, It looks like the weather in Tx will be comfortable. Showing in the 60s  10 days out.  Since the track is fairly open I am guessing airflow is good and cooling is not an issue. - Wasn't in October. There's lots of straights to let the motor cool down.

Is there electricity in the Pit area? - Yes and no ... depends on where you set up.

I'll also reiterate what's been said before ... this track has two fairly long straights (plus a third mini-straight) where you can really wind it out. That being said, short-shifting might be in your best interest if you want the engine to last.

I started packing up all the spares today.
We are using Hawk BLUE pads

Also have a tach that we can set the Yellow warning strobe . SO we should be able to kepp the Revs down and short shift.

We also have about 3 deg of Camber added.

Thanks
