Topic: best way to affix crap?

I need to them up my ride, but my attempt so far are a bust.  I tried gluing some plastic parts (bowl, cups, ect) together with hot glue, but no dice.  what is the best way to bind items together and to the car it's self?

Re: best way to affix crap?

Hot Glue is just wax.  Not much bonding strength.

There are many strong two part epoxies and construction adhesives.  Consider these chemical types of bonds.

Screws are mechanical bonds, pretty strong and reliable.

I like hex head self-drilling & taping screws.  Our car is kinda rusty so sometimes they come lose but for the most part they are quick, easy and effective.

Re: best way to affix crap?

Hot glue is awesome, works really well until your car warms up in the hot sun.
Then you get to watch all of your work self destruct on the track. It's great when the other cars are dogging all of those cut little fuzzy animals and funny crap coming off your car at 90mph. We just can't get enough of that!:D

Did anyone ever see the MyLittlePony CapriStang?  I'm pretty sure the entire thing relied on self-tappers.

And zip ties - can't forget those.

Now, you need to STOP giving up all the Metro-Gnome secrets.  Next time I am making you sign a NDA and a Non-Compete contract before you get in the car.

you forgot to mention the bubble gum......

Re: best way to affix crap?

From my experience:

Pop rivets work well.
Nuts and bolts are good if you're going to be removing it any time soon (though I doubt most teams have to remove what they've affixed as often as I do).
Self-tapping screws are awesome.
There's always duct tape if you don't mind covering it up.
Don't forget baling wire.

Stuff that does not work:
Hot glue guns
Super 77 - even on light stuff
Super glue is iffy at best.
