Topic: Picture in Picture Video

I was wondering if any readers know of a good value video system that is compact (ideally with flash technology not tapes) that uses 2 camera's into a "picture-in-picture" final product.  I remember viewing a video on this site where there was the main primary view out the windshield with another small PIP of the rear view AND there was a track map overlay with some data  (G's, MPH)  Any links or products that you can recommend?

Our team has that setup, but it's not mine so I don't know the details.   Unfortunately, it does use tapes.

Here is a sample of the system in my teammates "real" race car.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czXJfsJQPyM

Those were my videos...

The system is called a "Video VBOX Lite" made by Racelogic. Its about $1850 in the config I was using.

The on screen display is fully customizable. I added a team logo, event info, the track map with real time position indicator, rearview PIP, and the telemetry gage cluster:

Its a pricey system for sure, but still an excellent deal for all of the bells and whistles it comes with. Installation is as easy as a plug into the 12V socket, suction cup the cameras in place, and a magnetic GPS antenna. DONE.

Its important to note, the videos are recorded to the compact flash card with all of those on-screen goodies ALREADY IN THE FILE. There is zero post processing. The video comes off the card ready to upload. Avoiding the post processing headaches is a HUGE plus with this system.

For about half the price, one of my team members suggested this cam:

Which is nearly half the price with most of the same functions with even less to install. Might not give the same quality of output, but could be a nice compromise.

Re: Picture in Picture Video

Thanks can you get the system with JUST the PIP video for less money??

Re: Picture in Picture Video

Some of my friends use the chase cam system with good results... but I think that may be a bit pricey as well.

Re: Picture in Picture Video

The ChaseCam dual cam system is still like $1500 with dual cams. And it doesn't have the data acq that the Racelogix system has.

I've always thought that the MaxQData system looks interesting, but I've never played with it.

I've heard good things about the Race-Keeper system but haven't played with it myself.
