Topic: In 2 months I've gotten 2 free Minis!

The latest was just last night:

What a story:

I bought this car back in December

http://www.minimania.com/web/id/8941/Ca … Detail.cfm

It was waaaaay undersold. Lucky me. I took out the 1380 motor, rollbar, accusump, racee seat, kept the loads of extra parts (including the trailer!) and then put in another standard performance 1275 that needed bearings and rings (which I did before installing in the car) and then put it on fleabay and it went to Mexico--

So I'm left with this motor and I'm like, do I put it in the Lemons mini or do I keep it for a track car or? So I installed it in a car I used in a driving school at Buttonwillow back in February:

Fun motor, but then there was someone looking to upgrade his car with a bigger motor. He had another mini that he previously wrecked and was going to put a vtec in that wrecked one, but when his fiance' got on his case about this wrecked mini IN the SCREENED IN PORCH and his other "daily driver" mini not running well enough to commute in, a mutual friend put us together-- he got the 1380 motor (that I essentially got for free) and he gave me the accident-damaged mini in exchange

It came with the engine (runs!) and complete front end, too-- just not in the picture. BTW: That's also the "free" trailer I got with the first car above big_smile

So do I lemonize it? I've got $500 available to power it and I kept the limited slip diff and tranny from the 1380... Mini engine or? I did see a honda del sol with a vtec in it on CL last weekend for $500 and was totaled in an accident but engine undamaged...

But BEFORE all of THAT a friend of mine who was making some bastard chop-top, chop-waisted mini got pissed when he sat at DMV for 3 hours (he has a REAL anger problem). After said 3 hours, he went home with nothing to show but another to-do list from the DMV morons, so he broke out his cutting torch, and chopped it up into 6 or 7 pieces and was about to haul it off for scrap metal! Of course, me being Lemons crazy, I saved it. It came with nearly everything to make it roll and a free-spinning motor to boot!

If you look closely, everything is there except for the roof, B and C pillars. Even the 3 inch strips he cut out of the sides to lower it are there! And I'm thinking, with the help of a cage, I can get it back together! Team up with the Killer ZomBees and have a whole Night of the Living Dead theme going, British style.

I wonder if I chain 4 minis together (with 2 drivers powering 2 out of the 4 cars) if Jay will let me register it as 1 car-- at that point, the 4 minis will probably be smaller than the Caddy (each mini is 10' x 4') so 4 chained together would be 20' long and 8' wide)

I think a Mini limo would be nice. Got to have multiple engines, of course.

Re: In 2 months I've gotten 2 free Minis!

That is sweet! I would kill to find a SINGLE mini around here.

There WILL be a twin-engined mini (mini engines, of course--double the risk, er, I mean fun) by Buttonwillow, 2010, I promise you.

Might only be twin 850s or a 1275 and a 998 to stay in budget, but it'll happen. Here's the car I'm using:

A Limo? Mmmmm. Dunno. The added length might ad stability, and what fun would that be when the ass end outpowers the front end?

Re: In 2 months I've gotten 2 free Minis!

Spank, I bought the rear engine for our twin engine Prefect limo the other night. If you do it before us, cool, but it won't stop us, and ours shouldn't stop you. We now have two Prefects, a VTEC 1.6/5 speed for the front (the CRX), and a $200 '91 MR2 N/A 2.2/5 speed for the rear (wrecked in front, gutted).

Props on the scores and the insane plans. You and I think alike... big_smile

Perhaps it's because I grew up in Charles County, not too far from Brandywine!

I'm in no huge push to get done. I need to finish my stalled tow vehicle engine swap (isuzu 4BD2T in a 68 Pontiac Ambulance) so I can clean up the driveway of the isuzu carcass. December gives me plenty of time. I pushed to make sure I had the first Citroen, but I'm still trying to recover. I only just today got the driveway cleaned up of metal shavings and tubing shards from the endless notching, and the remnants of the parts stripped out of the interior. I won't start the other two mini builds until mid-summer, likely.

I look forward to seeing what other folks come up with for their twinnies. Best of luck on yours!

Re: In 2 months I've gotten 2 free Minis!

Thanks. Dunno when mine will debut either, but it should be pretty damn cool. Two separate 5 speeds, one shifter in front of the other. Honda VS Toyota for reliability comparison. I'll need a valve to switch the clutch master from one slave to the other, or else I'll lose half the throw. Another valve for the fuel system, and probably a whole custom fuel cell setup with high pressure pump. I wonder how well it would work if I left both in 3rd gear, and ran them both, instead of alternating the engines? Hmm... big_smile
