Topic: We have found our car for Stafford

I found a 67 Manx Dune Buggy has any body ever raced a buggy before?

Re: We have found our car for Stafford

Jay has already poo poo'ed dune buggies from what we've heard.  I sure wouldn't want to get hit while driving one!

Re: We have found our car for Stafford

a real manx or a clone?  Manx body alone, if its real, is worth at least $1000 if not more.  If its real and you can get it for Lemons money clean it up and ebay it to build up your fund for a more appropriate car.

I used to rock a caged Manx on the street.  I always said the seatbelts were there so the EMTs could find your corpse faster because survivability would be low.

Re: We have found our car for Stafford

I've mentioned Bradley GT and Fiberfab Valkyrie kit cars to Jay, and he's always said he'd totally accept them, so I don't see why he wouldn't take a Manx. You would have to rig up fenders sturdy enough to keep the car from climbing other racers in order to pass tech, but that shouldn't be so hard.

Just call Jay and ask him; he'll be happy to give you the yea or nay on the Manx. (510) 547-8479 extension 23.

The guy who gave us our VW chassis for the Wartburg has a body sitting in his barn, he's a american muscle kinda guy and has no need for it.  Every time I visit he tries to pawn it off on me, even offered up a 2nd VW chassis so I could build it.

Maybe once this Wartburg thing is done I'll take him up on it.

Would be a miserable ride though, hot, cramped and unsafe.

Re: We have found our car for Stafford

Thanks for the advice I tried to post an image but it failed I whether it makes Lemons or not I really like it.  I will post the link after I complete the sale tomorrow. I am sure my welder can add some heavy duty bumbers etc to help make it safe.

I found this ebay link to one similar  after doing some research I am not sure its a manx  it might be a kellison according to what I can find on the web  either way I should be picking it up today

Re: We have found our car for Stafford

Yep, if its a "t bucket" style like the one in your link its not a Manx...feel free to butcher it.

Manx looks like the one in my photo, there's lots of clones of them though so if its missing the original ID plate (common) then you have to check some other things to verify it.

Here is the craigslist ad if your interested. Did not want to post it for fear someone else would buy it

Sweet! More aircooled VW goodness. Nothing can go wrong with this plan. Just put in a good cage.

Heck, it was running last year! That's even better than ran when parked.

Re: We have found our car for Stafford

I am really psyched  I spent a couple hours going through the motor and got it to run. The guy who had it was playing with the distributor and its was out of time I got it close and it fired and sputtered. The gas in it is pretty old.  The floor boards are rotted  The guy was pretty firm on the price but I showed up in with my car trailer.  Offered 350 cash and I would take it today.  He turned me down until I started walking down the driveway.  Then he changed his mind.   I am still trying to figure out the model  I think its a dennis T 4 becuase of the curved windshield.  So if anybody knows what it is for sure let me know.   I still need to contact Jay to see if it acceptable for Lemons. But I am going to wait to till I am sure what it is.  I did get registration and Bill of sale.   So I may just fix it up and have fun with it.   I am looking forward to racing. But I am learning the best part of 24 of Lemons is finding the car.   Of course my wife thinks I am adictated to this and craigslist.
