Topic: Pets as spectators

Hi all, this is probably a stupid question, but do tracks have any rules regarding pets in the paddock? My wife decided to come along and spectate/help (awesome), but that means we either have to find someone to watch my dog (most of the people we'd ask are coming along) or bring her along. We'd obviously keep her tied up/leashed, and she wouldn't be riding in the Lemon - I just want to make sure it's legit in case we do need to bring her along. I also looked at Summit Point's (our first event) web site and they have nothing specifically restricting them, so I figure it's ok, just wanted to get an official opinion. Thanks!

Re: Pets as spectators

I saw dogs in the paddock at Nelson Ledges but it probably varies track to track so you may want to call Summit and see.

Also consider how high (or low) of a tolerance your dog has for noise/crowds/etc

I'd love to bring one of my "crew" along but I don't think they'd do well with the noise and my wife won't be able to come along so I'd be worried about them getting into something if I wasnt watching.

Re: Pets as spectators

I know that some tracks have rules against it, but for the most part, there are lots of dogs showing up to the races.  Like you said, keep 'em tethered and there shouldn't be problems.

Good point JTHw8 - she goes to autocrosses and has a good time, but the noise level/etc. is completely different. She'd love being around all the people, but I have a feeling she'd end up stealing a part i need and hiding it, or the like. We'll see what happens. Thanks guys!

My other concern as a dog person myself  (again alleviated by having your spouse there to help) is when you get a group of people  together everyone wants to feed the cute doggie.  If you have someone else watching her while you are on track you never know what they will allow (because everyone thinks they know whats better for your kids or dogs than you do)

Generally any time one of mine gets in a crowd/party situation where they arent fully supervised Im cleaning barf for the rest of the night.

I think you have the best possible plan with your wife there to help out, and if you dog is used to noise and crowds then she might really enjoy herself.  I know one or two of mine would have a blast there, but my wife can't come along and she would never let me take them knowing I wouldnt be able to supervise them 100%

Oh, and I'll be at Summit Point too so I'll have to look for you because I will be going through some serious doggie withdrawl.  We have 5.

You should keep your wife on a leash at all times.

Yee-Haw 2010 "Most Heroic Fix" & "I Got Screwed" -2 trophies for 1 lap, but I took checkered on my lap.
Gator-O-Rama 2012 "Organizers Choice" -2 laps 1 trophy, but i still finished ahead of an E30
Yee-Haw 2013 No trophy -26 laps, I think I see a pattern here
Gator-O-Rama 2014 "Waiting for the Last Minute Call from the Governor Award" -who's counting? John

And did you see the moron with two bullies that did not have her dogs on a leash? They started to get a little too frisky with Jake (DDM's dog, [pictured]) during the driver's meeting...scared the poo out of me. Jake's owner jumped in and drug the other two dogs off by their collars.

We may be bringing Healey with us to CMP, but my wife is anal about keeping him leashed and from eating human food, and knows I will not be attending to him at all.

As long as your pets are leashed and controlled (and not left in the hot car--like some moron did at CMP last spring) you won't have any issues.

Re: Pets as spectators

We'll see how things go, but it's pretty likely the dog will come with us. Someone should be around to watch her all weekend, and we're going to try and get a spot in the shade (there are quite a few at Summit Point). If anyone else is there, stop in and say hi - we're the team with the black golf with a checkered green hood (below) and little brown dog cheering us on (further below).
