Direct quote from David Champion, senior director of its Consumer Reports Magazine auto test division:

“We want a car to be benign.”

Well, so does Toyota, so what's the conflict?

For the rest of us, there's German cars smile

Re: The problem with "Consumer Reports"

Mr. Champion said that the problem came to light at the magazine’s test track in East Haddam, Conn., while looking for “any nasty habits that might catch a driver out.” He said, “We want a car to be benign.”

i.e. they want predictable handling for SUVs. It's not a problem with Consumer Reports, they're trying to protect all of us from SUV drivers who have no business being behind the wheel.

Re: The problem with "Consumer Reports"

yeah, i don't want to see the average suv driver trying to drift around a corner.  well, maybe i would, but i want to be a safe distance away
