Topic: 24 hour race

We are new and starting to put a team together. I noticed on the results pages that most of the races only have 13 to 14 hours of race time. I have been involved with the 24 hours of Morrosso and we raced for 24 hours. Is there a break in the middle? A Sat. and Sun. race? Just want to know before we get there.

Re: 24 hour race

The only true 24 hour race was going to be at Reno/Fernley this year but the track closed. (Bankrupt!) Jay and the crew were only able to get Thunderhill during the daylight hours to replace the venue.
There are no full 24 hour races this year, as of this moment.
All of the races as far as I know (I Could be wrong) will finish close to sundown. So  the need for lights on your car is a mute point, unless "they" being Jay and the crew stipulate them. So enjoy the 7-8 hours of racing on Saturday and the 7-8 on Sunday, and all the zaniness in-between.

Yep, that's the one.  If you are subscribed to Jay's email list, he has the 2010 race schedule and it specifically says that the FL one is a true 24.

Re: 24 hour race

Thanks for the info.

Re: 24 hour race

I have to say I was real disappointed when they announced the schedule for this year and there was no full 24 hour race for the midwest. I figured they'd keep up with the tradition and have one somewhere around Detroit.

I am so glad that I saw this as I am prepping a car for this event and just was getting ready to ponder lights...

Is there any limits on the amount of lights that you can run on cars? Ive been thinking of a set of fogs mounted high on the truck (cowl area) and pointed straight down the fenders pointed forward

Re: 24 hour race

Most teams go with four total lights at most.  They must be aimed properly such that they do not blind other drivers and the center of the lights cannot be mounted more than 6" above the hood.  We used two pairs of H4 55/60 lights and they worked great.  We aimed the center aux lights outwards for corner entry and the regular lights as usual.  Make sure you put the lights on relays and separate circuits so you can turn a pair off if the charging system acts up mid-race.
