Topic: Falken Azenis tires are thicker than you think

I just took in four old ones for new, but I cut a hole for curiosities sake first:

It's a lot thicker than I realized.

With this new information, we should get 3 races out of one set!

The tread is about twice as thick as the carcass after they are 'worn out'.

This tire that I cut the hole in had about 32-35 hours on it. It would have survived another 15 hours.
This is good news!

I thought they stopped making azenis.

The 615 was replaced with the 615'K'.

Still Azenis.

Re: Falken Azenis tires are thicker than you think

The problem with the old Azenis is that they lose their stickiness despite having a lot of tread left. I just sold one of my old sets of Azenis on Craigslist for $100.

Fast laps are not the whole story...

The 1st set of Dunlops were about that thin....(the ones we used for Arse Freeze) & I also noticed a drop in traction towards the end of their life...but it also could have been the 40psi too?

Mmmm Azenis Cookies.  I like to take two and put white lithium grease in between them.

Re: Falken Azenis tires are thicker than you think

When the stickiness goes away it doubles the fun!

Re: Falken Azenis tires are thicker than you think

The new 615 K's feel stickier to me.

We're plenty fast.

Good to know, I guess we'll find out soon enough.

for $50 more a tire, they better come infused with VHT.  We're switching to star specs due to the price increase.

Re: Falken Azenis tires are thicker than you think

Aren't "Star Specs" under 190 treadwear? Or only in some sizes?

200 treadwear unless you are awesome enough to use 185/60/14, then they are 220

We got them for the same price as the old 615s </bragpost>

Re: Falken Azenis tires are thicker than you think

We got them for the old old price (~$80/tire).  We couldn't get them for the $45/tire that discounttiredirect was giving them away for right before the switch.  I'm still kicking myself for not picking up a couple of sets.

Re: Falken Azenis tires are thicker than you think

I've got a set of 615's on my miata... Picked up some for $66/tire from DTD right before they disappeared. Not a bad tire for the price, though I hear they get hard from age after a year or two.
