We started out with 1" wide polyester webbing sewn into an appropriate towing point shape and looped around the bumper shock.  I have since moved to 2" wide webbing even though the 1" stuff was strong enough to pull the car off the tires at Nelson.  A custom made tow strap is a lot cheaper than the fancy "racing towing eyes" and does not bend/break off when side loaded.  Of course, en eye bolt could be even cheaper although it will punch through a competitor's bumper.  Other cheap options are sheet metal and an exhaust U bolt.
