Topic: Eyesore vs Death Cab - Going for Broken

Turn your sound down when you're watching this, there's a lot of noise above a starship.

The Death Cab driver (Phil? John? Dean? Jeremiah? Claudio? I'm not so good with names...) said he had a camera in the car too, so somewhere there is footage of him staying glued to my ass for the next half hour (or at least that's what it seemed like). I was givin' her all she's got. (cap'in)

Great camera angle.  I love seeing the hull of the enterprise chasing cars around the track.

Is that a tribble?  LOL

We won the IOE at Southern Discomfort.
We got screwed at The Real Hoopties of New Jersey  and we took cars down with us.
We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Re: Eyesore vs Death Cab - Going for Broken

yeah they were covered in tribbles by sunday.... they just multiply like crazy!

Re: Eyesore vs Death Cab - Going for Broken

Yea, we were having trouble with them...

Re: Eyesore vs Death Cab - Going for Broken

Excellent racing. It looked like Death Cab was clearing a path for you through most of that. Awesome camera angle too.

We had similar fun with the 914 car. Nose-to-tail for laps, along side in the straights numerous times, cross-over in T14-15, managed to pass it once, then got passed back again, and finally got separated by traffic and I lost him. Probably pitted, couldn't stand that level of excitement for so long. wink

You must have turned up the boost on the ghettocharger....maybe 10psi?

I was watching you two going at it...I had a sick E30 at that point and was pointing you two past as quickly as I could since I knew it was a race for position and you might have actually cared tongue  It looked like you were really pinning it and it was great to watch!

Are you mad?!

More than 4 psi causes the engine to politely tell us that it is ready to es-plode.

No, Dave was just driving the wheels off the car and Dean was casually shifting at 4500 RPM.

4 psi? Come on... I have a fair amount of turbo/supercharged miata experience and that thing is WAY too fast down the straights for just 4 psi of boost!

You know you're boosting at least 7 psi wink

We did try that a few months ago -- it turns out that any amount of boost past our current 4.5-ish psi and the motor pings like a sumbitch. Actually it pings at 4.5 but we just mix a little 100 with the 91 and roll the dice.

The reason? Our engine has always had a lot of blowby (our cylinders are sorta egg shaped), which pressurizes the crankcase and forces oil into the combustion chambers. Here, oil kicks octane in the jimmy. Hard.

Also, the friendly Mini driver spent some time at the straight clocking cars with a radar gun. According to him, our Vmax down the straight (~102 mph ish) was the same as the other well-driven Miatas, and down about 4mph compared to the Death Cab.

Re: Eyesore vs Death Cab - Going for Broken

Interesting... well if you're down just 4mph on the Death Cab you're scooting along! The Death Cab accelerates really really well... I'm pretty sure it's by far the fastest car in a straight line.

Try mixing 110 with your 91 smile

I had a non intercooled supercharger on a 93 Miata once upon a time that put out 5-6psi - it was all fine unless you actually tried to race it or do a fast extended hill climb. Then it started pinging like crazy. I noticed your car does have an intercooler so I would hope it's good for a bit more boost... but then as you said blowby is not your friend.

Anyway... congrats on a great car and a great team. Despite 3 penalty laps, a visit to the black flag station and a full car sized enterprise straped to your car you still came in second by less than a lap. I stand impressed.

BTW I love the camera location for your video... I crack up every time I see the enterprise chasing down race cars.
