Topic: Much respect due to Black Iron Racing for their Jeepney E39

So all of you remember the de-bodied E39 BMW that won the People's Curse at Buttonwillow for Black Iron Racing (winner of the Altamont Fall '07 race in their de-bodied E28), right? They wrote Jay requesting a residual value and the Lemons Supreme Court deliberations went like this:

Jay: Guys, what do we do about these jokers? It's the M5-ish skeleton car. Now they're begging for LS2 room. I'm thinking something on the order of $499.99 and nine-tenths..or maybe $1500...but your feelings on this?

Judge Phil:: $499.99 if they keep the BMW engine. $50 if they swap a Studebaker, Packard, or AMC V8 into it.

Judge Jonny: Wait, I'm confused -- these guys don't like their hella cheaty 540i V8?

Jay: Oh, I am so all over that. Wasn't there a Hornet with a sweet 351 or something?

Black Iron Racing: Errr...I'm confused too, but the best I can gather is that if we show up with the M5-ish sedan pretty much as it was in the last race (+ fenders to conform with new rules) we will not get 1 billion penalty laps.

Also -- wouldn't it make more sense to put the 4 Liter BMW V8 + autotrans into a grand wagoneer or any eastern Bloc soviet car as opposed to the other way around?  Reliability would still be extremely compromised but at least now it would look sweet.

Regardless, seeing as how the race IS two weeks away, you guys can look forward to heaping generous vituperatives upon our "hella cheaty" M5-skeletor.

Judge Phil: If you'd like to move that car out from under its perennial Cloud-O-Suspicion™, all you need to do is turn it into a Jeepney. All you need is some plywood, some paint, and a bunch of shiny ornamentation. Some examples.

You make it into a credible Jeepney, and we will give it zero penalty laps. Not only that, it will be totally immune to the People's Curse, because who the hell could ever vote to curse a Jeepney? Plenty of time to make it happen!

And with two weeks to go, Black Iron Racing made their car into a totally credible Jeepney: the King Lamb! They could take it into Manila and it would fit right in. We loved it so much that we let them slide through the BS Inspection. Cheaters, take note: re-theming your car according to our idiotic whims really helps!

A lap or two in the Jeepney:

Slight power advantage over some of the other cars out there. They jumped from 17th at the end of day 1 to 5th at the end!

The Jeepney looked sweet out there and was much less conspicuous with the addition of glasspacks; though I did miss that huge exhaust note...

Re: Much respect due to Black Iron Racing for their Jeepney E39

It only took us one people's curse to figure out that we need a properly goofy theme.  Who'd curse a car painted pink/green/yellow/gold?!?

Re: Much respect due to Black Iron Racing for their Jeepney E39

I'm still sad you did that to an e34 540i.  sad sad sad
