Topic: clip from Sunday at Goin' for Broken

new live streaming video service.
iPhone quality video- sorry.

This is from the final stint today. I was driving.

Look for live streaming video from multiple teams after this catches on.

I was up in the tower Saturday afternoon spotting for my driver and watching his in-car footage with just a one turn delay at one point.
It was nice.

Thanks. I haven't seen the final results, but our hot lap in-race that I am aware of  was a 2:22.

We/Larry needs to get a better camera. The stuff I shot with my digital is so much less pixilated.  The concept is pretty darn cool however. If we had a camera that had better resolution that could charge while in the car it would be hot.

We'll get it worked out.

This was just a quick and dirty effort  to see if we could get decent coverage over the entire road course without dropping signal.

Next race will be especially fun.

Charging in car isn't hard, find something with USB charging and get a $2 12v-usb5v converter from china.
A webcam+netbook with 3g might be the way to go, you could get nice resolution that way, and the requiring charging for the netbook can be done with a cheap power inverter.

Re: clip from Sunday at Goin' for Broken

I ran live video at Buttonwillow 2009 using an RC airplane video setup I borrowed from a friend. You can buy them at http://www.blackwidowav.com/ or http://www.rangevideo.com/ .  Was great to be able to laugh at things with the driver, or coach him on passes and lines.

It worked pretty well at buttonwillow from the tower for all but the sweeper and offramp- probably due to trees. This was with 2 omni antennas. I don't know how well it would work at Thunderhill with all the hills- it needed  a very clear line of sight.

I'm just starting to design a better setup using a directional antenna on the car that will be pointed at the tower at all times. We'll see if I ever get around to building it.

If you put the receiver on top of the hill across the bridge you'd get the majority of the track.

Sure, if you have 10 hours of batteries for your receiver and screen. Otherwise you really need an outlet.

Re: clip from Sunday at Goin' for Broken

Car battery and a power inverter ought to last a while, two car batteries should do the day i'd think.  Especially if it's being received and saved by a netbook or similar minimal power consumption computer.
