Topic: Did anyone lose a 10mm wrench at CMP?

Found it somewhere around turn 11.  It has 'Made in China' stamped in it.

We've done all of the CMP races to date, and this was definitely the most fun racing we've had yet.  There's several factors contributing (like having a car that lasted the whole race), but the courtesy that almost all of the teams were showing out on the track was a big part.  Slow cars left holes (most of the time) and fast cars waited for those holes to show up (again, most of the time).

I know you guys love your car, and have great pride in the whole dangerous homemade technology award quest...but if you took that damn wing off there is no telling how good that car would be.  Even with the wing (and now rudder) I had to work to get by you guys.  That car is pretty quick, so if it went on a no aircraft parts diet I can just image the difference.

Again, great job out there.  All good courteous drivers in your car when I was racing with you.

Oddly enough, we did lose a 10mm wrench.  I think it was a Craftsman though.

I took a picture of that as well, one of the craziest things i've seen come out of a wheel.

I agree about the courtesy as well, best i've seen yet.

Re: Did anyone lose a 10mm wrench at CMP?

I saw a screwdriver that punched its way through both the tire and wheel once.  That was pretty crazy.

I pulled a steak knife out of a tire once.

Ya guys screw the wing get the jet pack.

Of the race leaders, you guys were the only ones we could really match on the straights.  1, 44, and 666 seemed to be able to dust us.  Our fast lap time wasn't too much different from Februrary but it did feel like there were fewer cars out there that just flat out had us beat.  There wasn't a Superkak or Police Brutality car out there turning in sub minute lap times.

The rudder had absolutely no value (the wing blocks pretty much all the airflow), but I'm curious to run the car at a test n' tune to see what difference the wing makes.  It's heavy and draggy, but I think the 3-400lb of force it creates makes it a net plus.

I actually want a bigger wing, pushed a little more forward on the car and maybe canted to favor right hand turns.  Since they don't seem to be doing the dangerous homemade technology award, that want for a bigger wing is actually based a bit more on performance than style.  Johnny gave me a green light for a wing wider than the car since it will go over the top of everyone elses.  Just think... you can race in the shade.

Crazy stuff does happen.  I'm sure some of you remember the K9 car (our sister team) spinning off in T11 and having to get towed in during the last hour of the race.  The car had a flat tire and this was the cause:

The brake caliper bolts came out and the caliper punched a hole right through the inside of the wheel!

Hmmm.   I'd suggest buying a toolbox to store your spare wrenches.  I don't think storing it inside the tire worked out.

Or is that a Walmart tire balancing trick?

Wow.  Ok, I'll find a way for that extra tube of loctite in the budget somehow...

wow. I had heard about this... but seeing it just blows my mind! I thought it may have gone through the tread... but the sidewall? wow!

It actually went in through the tread and out throught the sidewall.  There's a hole in the tread that was about an inch in diameter.
