Topic: Is nylon strap good enough for a tow hook
Was thinking about using thick nylon strap with a big circle on the end as a tow hook. Is that ok?

Yep.. Worked for us. We used some old seat belts. They were MORE than strong enough to tow the car with.
What did you put on the belt to pull the car?
BTW: At the pick-a-part yesterday they used a seat belt as an engine hoist on a big v8.
We had metal rings that a two hook could easily grab.
The belts went around the bumper frame on the car. We secured them out of the way with tywraps.
My only concern would be fire. If you have an underhood fire, your "tow hook" might disintigrate.
I'm not sure I'd ever call a "strap" a "hook", anyway.
Tow straps are fine. Our car passed tech twice with straps and survived two retrievals including one off the tires at Nelson Ledges. I suggest you use one beefy enough to support the weight of the car which is NASA's or SCCA's requirement for a tow point.
