Re: What's your street car?

I'm a n00b here, but I'll play. Last time I made a list, I've owned 56 vehicles, few of them noteworthy. The "one that got away" was my first car, a Dodge Dart GT. (Actually, some idiot in a Pontiac Sunbird t-boned it beyond repair.)

Currently the garage is home to a 2007 Suburban (my daily driver), a 2007 Solstice GXP (wife's daily ride), a pair of Kawasaki Z1000's, a 2001 Viper RT/10 (the track toy), a 400-ish-HP 1990 Camaro IROC Z28 that would probably be great for cone-dodging but I don't swing that way, and a 1955 Buick Super (blood & bondo edition). Oh yeah, and a completely non-functional chunk of rust suspiciously reminiscent of a 1951 DeSoto.

Hopefully at some point we'll actually enter a race, and then people might find the foregoing more interesting. smile

Re: What's your street car?

First post:

Me and my buddy are building our (hopefully first of many) Lemons car.  Neither of us is very good at wrenching, but we are very good at drinking beer and eating anything that is cooked on a grill.  At our first race, we anticipate horrible grinding noises from our engine on Saturday and a nice day of spectating on Sunday.

Of all the work that needs to be done on the car, one thing is at the top of the list- a bumper sticker that says:

"MY OTHER CAR IS A CHEATER"

He drives a low and sticky Miata (as if there were any other kind).  I drive a Dodge Neon Turbo "Speeding Ticket Edition".  Despite this, I assure the bench that neither of us is actually a douchebag.

We're hoping to be ready with our "race" car by December at Buttonwillow.  Maybe I can convince my buddy to pull the trailer with his Mazda.

Re: What's your street car?

I just picked up another Miata for $500, but this one is way too nice for Lemons and will probably be my future wife's DD unless the motor issues are much more serious than they seem.  smile

Love the SAAB. I had a '89 9000T that I drove through college. Lots of headaches but I miss it.

86 Honda Prelube - Team Inspite: Rabid Hybrid Racing

Re: What's your street car?

The list:
198* Renault Wagon - Technically my first car, though I never drove it. Brother hit a dock with it after the "brakes failed" ...
1984 Mustang LX - First attempt at engine rebuild...FAIL
1980 Fairmont Futura (No rear brakes, fun as hell)
1983 Chevy S10 Blazer - Strippy with the Iron Duke and 4 Speed.
1985 VW Vanagon - Caught fire twice. Axle blew, so I gave it up
1982 Chrysler LeBaron - 318 w/Velour interior. Beautiful condition, but had fuel issues.
1985 Chrysler LeBaron - w/badly rebuilt 2.2l that liked to play "Spy Hunter" w/oil slick on right hand turns.
1989 Chevrolet Astro - Ran forever....caught fire once
1985 Mazda RX7 GSL - Drove it through college. Played snowplow when nobody else went out. I miss it, and will own another.
1992 Geo Prizm LSI - Car-pliance. It did its job until it wouldn't pass MD Emissions.

Dad was a used car dealer for 30 years, so that list doesn't cover all the other stuff I've driven over the past 20-odd years.

Current:
2000 Ford Ranger - Ten years old, still a daily driver

Other Misc *(still own)*:
1980 Mercedes 300D - Got Free with purchase of tow. Blown engine
1981 Mercedes 300D - Misc fuel delivery problems, possible blown motor
1983 Mercedes 300TD - Girlfriend's DD to replace the 81. Odometer stopped working at 280,XXX
1981 VW Caddy - Looooooong term project

Currently van-sitting....
http://scoot.net/gallery/bbs/caravan.jpg

And about a billion scooters, motorcycles, and who knows what else.

Still contemplating a v8 engine swap into one of the 300D bodies for mad fun....when I finally find the time to do it (house re-construction is a bitch, and ask any mechanic how willing they are to wrench on their own crap on the weekends....bleh~!)

Still looking for a few suckers....errrr..team mates in the New Orleans area smile

92.  It's my roommate's project car.  Its a pile.  I want him to get it running, then my other roommate needs to buy a 3000gt so we can all have heavy early 90s Jap supercars.

Re: What's your street car?

An update on my street cars:  Yesterday I traded away my MGB tow vehicle for a bright yellow 1981 HMV Freeway:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1344/4732772437_7a270bdd9d.jpg

so I'm now reduced to towing my KV behind the 1982 MG Metro that I took to the Concours d'Lemons at this year's Sears Pointless:

One of those two pictures was taken at my home, but I'll leave the solution to that puzzle as an exercise for the reader.

As for the '67 SAAB race car, now that the weather's at long last somewhat decent in the Seattle area, maybe I can finish the engine swap.  A garage sure would be nice....

Hahaha, I assume you don't like your roommate if you want him to buy a DSM smile

The best thing your other roomie can do is ditch the 7M as soon as possible. I have a couple of customer cars right now that are still running the 7M and I quickly forget how much easier (and better) everything is on the JZ motors.

And to the owner of the black Supra, very nice! I've always loved Blitz wheels, the black/black looks great.

Thanks! I dont think I will ever go back to a silver or polished wheel again.

He loves punishment.  He has an 86 Saab, a 70-somthing Spitfire with a ford 2.8 V6, and a Bonneville 750.
