So I wasn't the only dirt farmer on that corner? Good (i guess).
Did the mustang simply fall victim to marbles on the outside of the corner?
maybe too much speed or not enough tires? or both
Same thing almost happened to me at the corkscrew when I got tired of following an ill handling car with slightly more power. Tried to go 'round the outisde and had to nearly come to a complete stop on the curbing before I could get the car turned. NO grip out there in the marbles. As soon as I went out there I could see it was not going to work.
I could go anywhere around that turn. But... If I pushed my tires too hard at the top, they were greasy as shit at the bottom and that would happen to me. My team mates were telling me that they were able to pass on the outside or the inside depending on the situation. So I tried it. As long as I took it easy on the tires at the top, I could have enough traction to hit the outside and still make the turn.
How does and e36 get in a Lemons race?
How does and e36 get in a Lemons race?
That is a great question.
Did anyone hear how many penalty laps they got?
well I had a E36 compact (318ti M-tech) that I sold a few years back for $6000. So it cold be that this car is really cheap now. Hell, look at the Mercedes.

Still that thing looked to be in good shape and it was no 318ti.
I was impressed by the speed and the braking that car could do. Late braking was what blew me away!
The reason I asked, is I've been a recurrent BMW owner, and I feel like I know the market on these cars. I just couldn't think of a situation where you could get a car for $500. Even if the engine is "blown" and you sell every last part off the car, I still think it's unlikely you could get the total cost into the car under the $500 mark.
The stock handling and braking capabilities of an e36 are far better than almost anything anyone could "design" into a true lemon.
Honestly, I'd love to have their car as my HPDE track day car.

I had both an e36 compact and a mid-engine Toyota MR2 N/A and both cars handled exactly the same. They had the same feel and power delivery. Though I did ruin my compact by putting Koni's on it. I should have got the OE Boge units.

You can easily find an E36 that needs work listed for under $1000. Almost everyone listing a private car is willing to negotiate. Selling stuff off the cars is simple, as there is a large market out there. The real question is, how much goes in to fixing it?
You can make a fortune selling good window regulators.
That was kinda my point. If you can find a car that is ready to go, no chance it's near $500. If you find a car that needs enough work to make it in the $1000 range, then you may be able to recoup $500-$1000 from the sale of parts, but then you still have to fix the darn blasted thing, and keep the total less than $500. Ultimately, you only have $500 to use to get it running. After seeing these craiglist posts, I guess it's feasible. Certainly not what the judges want to see in their race.
You don't want this turning into a race made up of reconditioned miatas, e36's and the like.

Bill, do you have more of this video? Can you post if you do? I'd like to see the next lap or two if you have them.
ya, i wont be able to post them up until next week. I have a really slow internet connection due to living in the boonies.

Any chance you got that video posted? BTW, if you have the video on some other medium and are willing to share, I can pay for shipping of a DVD or similar.
