Re: tow hooks

Thanks for that link! I saw a car with that kind of tow hook on it and I couldn't find any online.

Re: tow hooks

Those i/o port straps work nicely. We've hung the back of the MR2 from ours on the cherry picker when swapping motors smile

Here are a couple other options. Pegasus has a flat aluminum one if you're wanting that style:

Or they have a ring-style one that lays flat:

And here are a bunch of inexpensive ones for SpecMiata cars:

This one is a little pricey, but looks nice and is pretty universal:

Although frankly these look like they'd be pretty easy to fabricate from 3/16 plate steel.

Re: tow hooks

We had several of the rectangular flat style tow hooks cut from plate steel at one of our team member's work place. They just added them on to the plasma cutter run. Weld them on and good to go.

Re: tow hooks

Big steel eyebolts. Welded on.

A couple bucks a piece.

Re: tow hooks

We're not too picky on the design--the reason we created this rule is simply because the rescue guys were spending way too much time searching for a sturdy tow point.

That said, I can't see any good reason for having an open one--closed ones will be a lot more reliable when you're gettin' pulled outta t'ditch. There's a reason why most of the racy ones are closed.

Don't see a problem with Trekkor's big burly steel eyebolt idea as long as it's mounted right.

Our bumpers are functional tie downs and toe points.

Hey Nick,
We are in the same boat as Troy.  We have huge 5pmh chrome bumpers with no filler panels, so our Z could be hooked up anywhere without worry of strength or damage.  Do we still need a dedicated hook, or can we simply put a "TOW" sticker on the bumpers?

Re: tow hooks

Thanks for all the info , Ihope they will not be used but thanks

Re: tow hooks

Lemons is funny that way. All the safety equipment that you need but hope you won't use winds up getting used, and all the speed parts that you don't need but hope will make you go faster wind up just making you slow. You could say that Lemons is a metaphor for life in that way, but that's way too deep for most of us.

Re: tow hooks

Good, accessible tow points are also good places to strap the trailer queen down.  Using the term trailer queen in the most whitest, trashyist, My Name is Earl kinda form.

Yeah, that's fine, just mark them clearly (maybe paint one section of the bumper a contrasting color with "TOW" on it to get the point across).

Those will work nicely, just make sure your welds are done very well. The safety crew would not be happy if the weld broke under stress, causing a 2 pound projectile to blast through the rear window of the truck or worse hitting a crew member.

Re: tow hooks

After you cut a round out of your springs (to lower your car) the resulting hoops will make nice tow straps when welded to the front and rear of your car.
Price: 1/2 pound of Argon, about 20 feet of welding wire, Bright Red or Orange background Paint and a Black Sharpie to write the word "TOW"!
