No.  I was referring to a photograph of a woman with her legs spread using a dildo.

My wife brought it to my attention as we were walking with my seven-year-old daughter through the paddock.

If there's one thing that's become pretty obvious in following and now participating in these events....Its not a family event.  My ex wife and daughter live about 20 minutes from where we were racing at Summit and she (the daughter) really wanted to come see us flog the Wartburg but I asked her to stay home, and shes a teen so not nearly as sensitive as a younger child, but this isnt a place for children, sorry.

I have a theme tucked away for a car that I wrestle with mentally because it will offend someone should they bring their family, but it must be done none the less.  So if you hit up the east coast events, be forewarned smile

MAM was relatively kid-friendly. ECR was just a little less so. Probably a mid-western thing.

Forewarning aside.  This is an event I want my son and daughter to attend.  I have pictures of my kids working on my car right beside me.  I've used this experience to build a closer relationship with my kids who will be chearing for me, Grandpa and their Uncle.  If your themes need to be explicit or sexist then I will use that to point out the difference between creative funny and tasteless funny.  But also be forewarned, you cannot expect EVERYONE to keep their children away just because a very small percentage of the entrants want a chance to be crude.  Whatever you put on your cars, will be seen by people of all ages, genders and races.

And you also should not as new participant come in and expect long time participants to change the way they have been doing things. You know in advance the events(s) might have some teams that have a more "adult" theme, it is your choice to bring your kids. IMO I never thought of this a family type event, which is why Grandma will be watching the kids.

I'm not expecting anyone to change.  I'm just saying there wil be families there and doing fun, crazy events with my children is something my wife and I love to do.  If that gives anyone pause regarding their theme, well that is ok.  BTW, I may be a newbie on the Forums, but I am not at the events.

And I still think a picture of a woman spreading her legs using a dildo is going too far.

The 24 Hours of Political Correctness?

Bring the kids. Tell them there will probably be a few "naughty" teams, but that they are just being "naughty" as a way of poking fun at someone or something, and not much else.

That's what I did with my 8 y.o. nephew and he just laughed off those themes.  Before hand he just told me, "Uncle Mike, it's OK, I know what those words mean."

We had a great time, and he thought the cruder themes were simply funny, in a naughty sort of way. No big deal.

That said, you could certainly take things too far for even most adults.

Re: Theme Cars? What is allowed? jJst how far afield is OK?

We did CMP twice and I took my 12 y/o daughter to CMP this spring, nothing was completely out of bounds. She and I discussed 'naughty' themes beforehand and she was just fine. She keeps bugging me about going back. smile

Of course I have no way of knowing how many events you have been too.  As for the dildo theme, I agree that might just be too far. I thought the point of the theme was to try and be cleaver, not out-right crass. If a theme has something a little racy, but yet is funny/cleaver/creative that is one thing and takes some thought, being a dirtbag takes little to no thought.

I do agree that sounds like it's crossed the boundery of good taste. I personally wouldn't have pointed it out, rather attempted to distract youngsters with something else of interest.

Maybe because we have such puritanical views in this country such things are displayed  I can honestly say I've never seen that sort of crudity in Europe in public. On the other hand children grow up looking at statues of David and paintings of full frontal nudity from a very early age there so perhaps We as Americans need a little more maturity and less politcal correctness.
Saturday Night Live doesn't make fun of things in good taste only things of poor taste..
I believe the way to correct such behavior is to ridicule it rather then censor it.. However you need to be clever to seriously poke fun at something so perhaps the uniqueness of the situation shocked you into your reaction?
Please I'm not being critical.. I agree with your conclusion that it wasn't appropriate. I simply feel that the way to deal with such things is ridicule Something along the lines of,  "I guess we know which gutter his mind is in"?
OH with the internet?
kids have seen that and far far worse. I agree It's uncomfortable for us adults but Isolation isn't the way to raise children either.. They will see many such examples of stuff like that in their life.. Shock and anger reactions are what makes people do that sort of thing in the first place..
A clever word of discouragement will cause them to think twice.  Nothing is worse than being pointed out that you are tasteless.

Earlier I gave an example of how simple it would be to do it.  If you like I'll walk you through the process.
Oh and if you have a nice fat wallet there is a company in England that will pretty much replicate the car for you. The Sole differance is that they use the XJ based V12 rather than the XK based V12  (Two cams instead of 4)
