Do I need a camping permit?

I just got done filling out our application for LCR in New Orleans and when I was going back through everything there was an option for purchasing a camping permit.  At this point we haven't 100% decided but I'm pretty sure we're going to get hotel rooms for Friday night.  Obviously we'll be there all night on Saturday, but so will everyone else, so I assume no permit is needed for that.  Am I correct in assuming the permit only for Friday night?
