Topic: Finished up our fuel cell mounting

Finished mounting our super tanker sized fuel cell for the Chevette. It should provide plenty of fuel for our 1.6 liters of fury. It went together pretty well, although it would have been nice to place it a little farther inboard. It's going to shift a lot of weight when it's full. Oh well, it's not about turning the fastest laps at the race, it's about lasting the longest and this should help that out a lot.

Re: Finished up our fuel cell mounting

You know you're going to need a firewall between that and the cockpit right?  (not trying to bust your chops just dont want you to get caught out at tech)

We helped a team with something similar at summit and it was suggested/required by tech that they have a skid plate on the underside as well (although I think theirs sat lower to the ground so you may not have an issue)

Re: Finished up our fuel cell mounting

Did you weld the case/cover to the frame you built?

While you can do that and I doubt it affects you in tech, it does make it hard to make changes to the cell.

Like stated above, you need a bulkhead.  In your case the whole thing needs to be covered.

Re: Finished up our fuel cell mounting

The cell is bolted to the cradle we built. I also know that we need a bulkhead, just wanted to show how the majority of our work was done.

It shouldn't be terrible hard to encase in metal, it'll also keep the fuel lines out of the driver's compartment which I'm a big fan of. Finding a suitable hinge for the filler access flap should be interesting though. I'll see what Home Depot has.
