Topic: Forum Browsing Suggestion

When clicking a link to an external website (ebay, CL, etc) the link is opened in the same browser window/tab that the Lemons Forum was in.  I often close that window intending to go back to reading the forum, but alas, she's gone.

Can a forum setting be changed so that the Lemons Forum window stays where it's at, and the links open in a new window/tab?  I did a brief look at the PunBB forum website and didn't see the setting, but I don't have access to a configuration GUI so not sure if this is an easy change or not.

Cheers!

Re: Forum Browsing Suggestion

Or you can just right-click the link and select "open in new tab" or "open in new window" and avoid the problem altogether. smile

Re: Forum Browsing Suggestion

You can also add this bit (it's called an attribute, if you want to get technical) in your link URL:

target="_blank"

so your link would look like this (take out the extra spaces):

[ url=http://forums.24hoursoflemons.com/ target="_blank" ]The 24 Hours of Lemons Forums[ /url ] produces The 24 Hours of Lemons Forums

Re: Forum Browsing Suggestion

Forcing external links to open in a new window IS something that can be done if the forum admin is willing and able.  Used to take a code hack, but these days it may even be an option in admin.  Given the very "vanilla" state of this forum, I wouldn't count on anything like that happening.

Right click, new tab.

Lemons South 2008 - Fail, Lemons South Spring 2009 - Fail, Lemons Detroit(ish) 2008 - Fail, Lemons South Fall 2009 - Fail, Lamest Day 2009 - Fail, Miami 2010 (Chump) - 2nd!, Sebring 2010 (Chump) - Fail, Cuba 2010 - Crew Chief, Roebling 2011 (Chump) - 8th!, Sebring 2011(Chump) - 19th!

Re: Forum Browsing Suggestion

This catches me out too.  This is the only forum I use that doesn't open links in a new tab by default.  Not a big thing by any means - just have to remember to right click - and most times I remember after I didn't. lol

If you use Firefox (and perhaps other browsers), middle-click automatically opens links in a new tab.

Re: Forum Browsing Suggestion

I just took a look through all the configuration options for the forum and that isn't a clickable setting.

Also depending on which browser you are using you can hold down the [shift] or [ctrl] key to get a new window or tab when following links.

Yeah, I checked the PunBB knowledgebase/wiki and it can be done but its a code modification not an administration option.

Yeah, that was my reaction the first time I accidentally did it.   I had to do it two or three times just to make sure it was really happening!   :-)
