Topic: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

Went on the big retrieval mission today.  Made it home safe and sound.

Gonna need some rules clarifications, I mean if the STOCK firewall was made of wood is that ok?  wink

So it's not worth restoring then?

Pendejo - There is no such thing as a racing budget and if you can't afford to set it on fire and watch it burn while drinking a beer then don't race it.

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

I'm sure they Jay has an answer to that.  It also looks like your front tires don't meet the minimum tread depth.  smile

So how does the Nash look so far?

Hell no.  I never held out any hope for a restoration.  I think there's enough left to make a cool custom or potentially a Lemons car, but restoration is out of the question, especially when I looked up what some of the parts on this car go for.  Friggin gas cap auctioned off for $1300!!!  Sadly I do not have said gas cap on the car, but I do have some other trim bits which should easily offset the purchase price.

Rusty.  Acutally its mostly solid.  But its a wood frame car and most of that is shot.  For the young-in's in the group wood frame does not mean the chassis, but they lacked the technology and tooling to make structural sheetmetal so all the sheetmetal is hung around a wooden framework.

Unbeknownst to me this is not a flathead motor, it does have overhead valves.  The head weighs a metric ton, dont even want to think about the block (which is full of water and useless)  Some neat things on the car like the oil level gauge on the side of the block which is a pointer that goes to a rod that goes through the block and presumably attaches to a float in the sump.

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

Ah too bad...restoring an old nash could be a cool project.

I look at this way.  It wont be in a crusher any time soon unless your a hoon on the track with it.  (wow that sounded weird).

You'll have to come up with some unique power plant for it though.  Slant six with EFI and a megasquirt system to control it?

Some type of straight 6, I'd really love to put a 5.9 Cummins in it but cheap donors dont exist.  Got awhile before I start anything with this one so I'll be mulling over ideas.

Anyone got the dimensions on a Jag V12?  It looks like there might be room wink

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

What was the existing motor in the nash was it the straight 6 or the straight 8.  Since its junk I guess it doesn't really matter but for their time the nash motors were pretty top of the line, things like ohv and dual spark along with other high end goodies.

Yep, this is the straight 6 "Advanced 6" with the OHV and dual spark ignition, pretty cool stuff but the motor is trash sadly.

Some quick pics for y'all

Monstrous lump of an engine.  Over 3 feet long from bellhousing to crank  with some more room to work with.  Sooooo much potential in there.

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

you could get a V10 from a Dodge Ram pretty cheap; someone even listed one here not too long ago for $450. more than enough oomph and if you cleaned up all the accessory attachments could look pretty sweet under there too.

any ideas on what you wanna do with the wood framing and the huge amount of rust?

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

Jaguar V12 with 12 Turbo Sprint turbochargers.

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

Mercedes 300D - or any mercedes straight six and grind off all the logos to look like an Offy.
Better, glue two of them together inline and get a straight twelve...

why not 2 Legend 5cylinders turned sideways and coupled together with a diff to make your 10cylinder. easy, right?

Yee-Haw 2010 "Most Heroic Fix" & "I Got Screwed" -2 trophies for 1 lap, but I took checkered on my lap.
Gator-O-Rama 2012 "Organizers Choice" -2 laps 1 trophy, but i still finished ahead of an E30
Yee-Haw 2013 No trophy -26 laps, I think I see a pattern here
Gator-O-Rama 2014 "Waiting for the Last Minute Call from the Governor Award" -who's counting? John

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

Actually that was me that posted the Dodge V10.  Its gone now though.

Most of the rust is just heavy surface rust, structurally its pretty sound except for the top of that fender.

The wood will all be removed and it will be reframed with 1 inch box tube.  The local steel place has an offcut pile outside that I can usually scrounge for cheap and should be able to get most of what I need.

Havent ruled out a benz 6 or any other possibility.  Although Sonic was kind enough to point out that the 122 inch wheelbase is identical to that of a b-body Caddy fleetwood so a quick frame swap would be simple and easy and provide LT1 goodness.  Not very challenging though.

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

Honestly, because dropping a V8 in it is just what everyone would expect, its the common thing to do.  I prefer weird wink

If Im gonna go boring I'll just drop it on a Caddy Fleetwood chassis and call it done.

Drivetrain will probably be the last decision made so I have alot of time.  Need to get the body off the frame and rebuilt and redo the frame and suspension.   That will take awhile smile

Ok, so how about a Maserati engine from a Citroen SM along with the hydropneumatic suspension setup from either the SM (or the D like I've got)?

Re: In its new home, awaiting a sinister life

Good to see it made it home safe ... sorry I wasn't there to help with the tow ... Hopefully I'll see it before it gets too torn down (or flipped for some majore profit)!
