not entirely certain, except that both Car and Driver AND Road and Track gave it marks for "Does everything a car or boat should, equally poorly/abysmally"

...and had the worst braking ever reviewed (in '64 or so)

Brakes schmakes.  No matter how much better you made the brakes they'd still be completely ineffective 50% of the time (ie, when you're in the water) so why bother?

I love my Amphicar.  Show me a better car on water of a better boat on land for the money.
