The car has made it over the mountains and out of the rain. Plenty of photos on my TTAC post.

Spank will make it! This is what he lives for.......

He deserves an award for even attempting this.
It would be very cool if people along the way would hang "Go Spank!" banners from overpasses, etc.
Since he says the clutch is slipping, perhaps someone could find one for him. Hint, hint!
He's well into Arizona now. Clutch is slipping some, so perhaps someone on his route might know where to find a 1971 Citroën ID19 clutch?

I checked with Oakland's Citroen Headquarters (http://jalopnik.com/353620/you-can-brin … to-hanzels) and Dad (oddly) does not have a spare. He says if it slips bad just try adjusting the play. It's near the steering rack. These guys in Austin, TX may be of use... http://www.frenchrev.com/index.html
I am trying to get in touch with the French Rev guys but no luck so far. I am texting him how to adjust the clutch.
Is he coming thru Houston on I-10? If so we need to buy him dinner and escort him thru town.
He is driving 10 so keep a eye out.
I haven't found a cross-reference yet, but apparently there's a Valeo clutch kit out there somewhere that fits the ID19. Numbers are on the image from these guys, but they're not on the Valeo website.

They're no doubt closed today, but someone could try them tomorrow & get it UPS'ed to some point ahead on his trip, or to the track depending.
Then there's also Brad Nauss Automotive in Mechanicsburg, PA:

If it's the place I think it is, it looks like a Citroen graveyard, or did 15+ years ago.
I'm about a block from I-10 in New Orleans, but he (should) be using the Bypass which is I-610 unless he really wants to see downtown.

If the car makes it to south fl I can volunteer my shops address to recieve anything needed
If a complete clutch cannot be found, is it possible that someone along I-10 could re-line his existing clutch? It can't be that difficult to do, even if done in a Lemons fashion.
I have a vision of an impromptu Lemons pit crew meeting him at a convenient off-ramp, taking him to dinner and a motel for a rest, while the rest of the crew takes care of the clutch change. Can you pull it off?
The adjust and bungee cord worked. He says the clutch is much better and he is sure he can make it to Florida.

This guy's website claims to have a DS19 clutch at his shop in NY. Sunday night ring / no answer, no idea if he's open this week, but maybe useful if it can be fedex-ed ahead on the route or shipped directly to FL if Spank limps through on the current clutch and needs a fresh one for the race. I'll try again first thing in the morning, confirm / deny if what he's got, and post back:

Hope this helps-- GO SPANK!
I have a clutch I think in Brandon FL.. I can check tomorrow when I am home.
Also ill bring a engine hoist.. On a citroen the trans is in front of the engine. So you pull the radiator and front clip off the cars. Its about 12 bolts. Then unhook the axels and some of the hydraulic pluming. You can just slide the trans forwards with a hoist and get to the clutch.. Since the engine sits backwards in the car.
Ill have to find my service manuals also..
Bam2002 if you have one bring it because i am betting it will be needed. He is planing on racing and then driving it home.

Bungee cord trick - rumour had it that the weight of the pedal against a failing spring would "slightly" activate the hydro-pnuematic clutch, resulting in slip - if caught early enough there should still be enough lining to get to FL, the same source said that usually the T/O bearing failed b4 the lining wore completely out.
...sounds like he got it that way - for a while!
AS fer "front clip and radiator 12 screws" this is a Lemons DS-19. Reduce that to 4 screws and a few zip ties. He's not going to be happy even touching the hydraulic lines let alone MOVE them
- someone bring a swedging tool and inline splices for ~3/8 oil cooler line! Or barbed splices adn Really Good hose clamps!
Driving home... yeah, I had heard he hoped to sell it to someone 'back there' to mount on a post in the front yard or something... needs the space for the next awesome project!
You guys stay on top of it!
GO Spank!
GO SPANK!!!!!
were in Austin and have a lift and all the tools needed, and know the guys from frenchrev!!! Talked to the owner wednesday (pat)
Spank is about 250 miles out of El Paso right now and clutch is holding even after going up to the 4900 ft level so he is real happy. He will probably stop for the night there.
Pen
In between El Paso and Houston is a pretty lonely drive. Ther isn't shit out there....
got a text from him an hour ago. he is 250 from El Passo.
I dont know if he is gonna try to make it all the way there tonight, but El Passo is just west of the Time Zone change. That should put him there around 1130-12 Mountain time / 1230-1 Central time.
Spanks still going with a Subway turkey sandwich in one hand and no brake lights. I told him brake lights are optional in New Mexico
Pen
Go Spank Go! Give Hanzels a call 510-451-1889 in Oakland if anything else is needed this week. Glad to see the rocker is holding up.
He shouldn't need the brakes until FL - so Brake Lights are redundant, no?
Subway Turkey - is he trying to upstage Jared?
